In The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, finding new weapons is pretty easy if you’re playing as an archer or melee fighter. But if you’re a mage, you’ll need to track down specific vendors to get your hands on new spells. Luckily, Cyrodiil has plenty of spell sellers, so as long as you know where to look, you can keep adding to your magic arsenal whenever you want.
Like in other Elder Scrolls games, Oblivion Remastered features a bunch of different magic schools. Not every mage is good at every type of magic, though and that’s why you’ll have to find the right vendor depending on the kind of spell you’re after. Most of these vendors are grouped pretty close together, but every now and then, you might need something specific, like a Destruction spell or something and find nobody nearby selling it. Plus, some of the stronger spells can eat up a ton of Magicka, so you might have to boost your attributes a bit before you can actually cast the big stuff.
Where to Get/Buy New Spells in Oblivion Remastered
In Oblivion Remastered, you can pick up new spells from spell vendors all over Cyrodiil. You’ll usually find these merchants hanging out in major cities, either at the local Mages Guild, inside Great Chapels, or sometimes in magic shops. Outside of that, there’s really only one other spot you’ll find spell sellers and that’s Dunbarrow Cove.
Dunbarrow Cove is a DLC player home you can get in Oblivion Remastered. It’s tucked away under Anvil Castle on Cyrodiil’s west coast. Once you upgrade the place, you can bring in some NPCs who sell spells and a few other goodies. Even though the Mages Guild and Chapels are still the go-to spots for buying spells, Dunbarrow Cove gives you a few extra (mostly low-level) options after you fix it up.

- Kovan Kren: Illusion and Restoration spells
- Melliwin: Mysticism and Restoration spells
- Tahm Blackwell: Alteration and Restoration spells
No matter your magic focus, there’s a spell vendor out there ready to help you build your perfect arsenal. Most major cities have everything you’ll need, but for the best and most powerful spells, you’ll want to level up your magic skills and visit the Arcane University in the Imperial City.
Just a heads-up: those high-end spells can get pretty pricey. But if you’re a little short on gold… well, a few well-placed lockpicks might “open some doors” for you.
