Where to Find the Well of Souls – Path of Exile 2

In Path of Exile 2, the Well of Souls lets you use a unique type of crafting called Desecration, which lets you add powerful effects to your gear. To do this, you will need special items called Abyssal Bones. If you want to make your items stronger in a new way, finding and using the Well of Souls is definitely worth it.

Where to find the Well of Souls

You will find the Well of Souls in Act 2, inside a place called the Lightless Passage, which is located in the Mastodon Badlands. Head towards the edges of the Mastodon Badlands. You will find a small dirt path. It will lead you down into the Lightless Passage.

Once you enter the Lightless Passage, keep going until you come across the Well of Souls. There, you will meet a strange Lurking Creature with a golden quest marker over its head. Talk to it, and The Hooded One will show up. He will give you the ability to understand the ancient language, which lets you use the Well of Souls.

When you open the Well of Souls, it will ask you to place an item that has an unrevealed desecrated modifier into the slot. Once you do, you can reveal that modifier and choose one from a few different options. After that, you can see a faint green glow on the item. That glow means it now has a desecrated modifier. If you scroll down the item tooltip, you will spot the modifier at the bottom.

How to use the Well of Souls

After unlocking the Waypoint inside, the Well of Souls will show up on your World Map like other fast travel spots.

Desecration Crafting

At the Well of Souls, you can use a special crafting method called Desecration. Here’s how it works:

  • Place a Rare item (yellow-tier) into the receptacle. Only Rare items can be used unless you’re using something called the Omen of Putrefaction.
  • Click “Reveal”, and you will see three modifiers you can choose from.
  • Pick the one you like and hit “Confirm.” That modifier gets added to your item.
  • To do this, you will need special crafting materials called Abyssal Bones, which come in three types: Gnawed, Preserved, and Ancient.

After adding a Desecrated modifier, you won’t see it right away. It will show up as green-colored gibberish on the item. To read what it actually does, you will need to revisit the Well of Souls and reveal it there. You can also use Omens to influence the outcome of the crafting. You can still use normal crafting orbs like Vaal Orbs, Chaos Orbs, and Divine Orbs on items that have a Desecrated modifier.
