Where is the Black Flame MH Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, The Black Flame, also known as Nu Udra, is one of the most fearsome creatures you’ll encounter. As the apex predator of Oilwell Basin, this massive fire-breathing cephalopod lurks in the lava beneath the forge, waiting for its next challenge. Though its threatening demeanor, The Black Flame is not a particularly hard fight to win, as long as you show up prepared. Whether you’re encountering it within the story or tracking it down in the late game for desirable materials, you need to know where and how to find it. This walkthrough will guide you in locating The Black Flame, from initial encounter to finding its High Rank counterpart for farming.

The Black Flame MH Wilds

The Black Flame, also known as Nu Udra, is the top predator of Oilwell Basin in Monster Hunter Wilds. This massive, fire-breathing cephalopod resembles a giant black octopus, setting it apart from its ocean-dwelling relatives. Despite its intimidating presence, it’s not a particularly tough fight, if you come prepared with the right build, you can take it down easily, both in the main story and endgame. You’ll find it lurking in the lava beneath the forge in Oilwell Basin, but be sure to bring Cool Drinks; without them, the intense heat will slowly drain your health and eventually knock you out.

Encountering The Black Flame in the Story

The Black Flame appears relatively early in the story, so you won’t have to wait long to face it. Your journey will take you to Oilwell Basin, where you’ll need to progress through various hunts until you unlock the quest Long Forgotten Flame. During this quest, The Black Flame is introduced in a cinematic scene as the apex predator of the region, setting the stage for your battle.

Tracking The Black Flame’s Location

To lead it to them, go to Area 7 on the map, where you will find a clue, Half-Digested Food, on the ground. Touching it will trigger the scout flies, which will directly take you to The Black Flame’s hideout in Area 15. Be prepared for a tough battle when you arrive at its hideout.

Unlocking The Black Flame in High Rank

After completing the main story and entering High Rank, you might be eager to farm Nu Udra for its materials. However, you won’t get immediate access to its quest. First, you’ll need to reach Hunter Rank 40, which unlocks the quest A World Turned Upside Down. This quest begins with an investigation into a Gore Magala sighting, which causes chaos among other monsters across various regions.

Farming The Black Flame in Endgame

If you explore Oilwell Basin before reaching HR 40, The Black Flame may occasionally appear on the map. While you can engage and fight it, you won’t be able to carve it for materials. Additionally, you won’t be able to join other players battling it if you haven’t yet met the rank requirement. Once you complete the designated quest, The Black Flame’s High Rank version becomes permanently available, allowing you to farm it freely.
