Within the “Veil of Love” lies your introduction to the disguise system in Where Winds Meet. It’s a system which can easily be overlooked if you’ve never interacted with it before. This guide will outline how you can obtain Qiao Sanlang’s satchel, create a duplicate portrait of him, wear the proper disguise and complete the quest efficiently without wasting time or failing the objective.
Finding the NPC With the Jade Satchel
To begin the quest, go to the new area marked as available. Find a character that carries the jade satchel, and talk to him. Once you have spoken with him, hold down R3 to activate Wind Sense. When the Wind Sense prompt appears, interact with him to pick up the jade satchel.
You can attempt to ask for it normally, but the game won’t allow it. After this interaction, the objective will update and send you to a disguise shop.
Visiting the Disguise Shop
The shop is usually very close to the NPC you just spoke with, often right next door. Enter the building—sometimes through a window—and look for the shopkeeper inside.
If the quest directs you to a different disguise shop instead, the process stays exactly the same. When in doubt, follow the mask symbol on the mini-map. Once you speak to the shopkeeper, they’ll tell you that a portrait is needed before a disguise can be prepared.
Step outside and head just around the corner from the shop. You’ll find the character whose appearance needs to be copied. Stand directly in front of them until the portrait icon appears, then interact.
This triggers a short mini-game where you align the image properly. Wait for the confirmation prompt and lock it in once the framing is correct.
Putting on the Disguise
After the portrait is confirmed, return to the disguise shop and speak to the shopkeeper again. A new option will now appear at the bottom of the screen allowing you to put on the disguise.
Once equipped, the disguise remains active for 15 minutes. You can remove it manually by holding the Start button, but doing so before finishing the quest may cause it to fail.
Collecting and Using the Quest Item
While disguised, go back to retrieve the item. Activate Windsense and interact with the target. This time, the NPC will hand the item over without any resistance.
Open your menu, go to Quest Items, and locate the item in your inventory—it may appear in the All tab. Use it to unlock the appearance tied to the quest.
With the appearance unlocked, return once more to the disguise shopkeeper and complete the quest. If you ever need another disguise for a similar quest, you can always come back to this shop.
