Whetstones are very important in V Rising, especially when it comes to upgrading your gear. You need them to increase the gear score and level up your weapons to higher-grade weaponry, this bears weight in V Rising, since your gear score is basically a measure of how far you can go in the game.
Whetstones are much-needed early-game items in V Rising, and there are three primary ways of getting them. First, they drop as random loot. Second, you can craft them, but first, you’ll have to unlock the recipe for it. Lastly, efficient farming will also get you Whetstones. In fact, we have a good farming route in Farbane Woods that helps to track down Whetstones more consistently. This guide will lead you to getting to and using Whetstone in V Rising, so read along.
First Method: How to Find Whetstone
Whetstones can be obtained as random loot drops, primarily found within bandit camps scattered throughout Farbane Woods. For a high concentration of enemies and chests that frequently yield Whetstones, the Bandit Armory is your best bet. Just make sure you’re around item level 25-30 before heading in.
While Whetstones are relatively scarce at the very beginning of the game, they become more common as you progress into higher-level zones and start taking down tougher enemies like bosses and elites.
Second Method: How to Craft Whetstone
Whetstones can be crafted at the Furnace using one Copper Ingot and 12 Stone Dust. However, to unlock the crafting recipe, you’ll first need to defeat Grayson the Armourer—a level 27 V Blood boss located in the Bandit Armory mentioned earlier.
How to Defeat Grayson the Armourer
Grayson is positioned at the far end of the Bandit Armory, so you’ll need to fight your way through numerous enemies to reach him. It’s best to begin your assault just before nightfall; that way, you’ll have the full duration of the night to make your way through and engage him without worrying about sunlight exposure.
We recommend being at item level 25-30 before taking on this encounter. Fortunately, the fight is relatively simple, as Grayson isn’t as tough as some of the higher-tier bosses you’ll face later.
Defeating him grants you several rewards: a tier-one Illusion magic spell, workshop flooring, decorative items like shelves and target dummies, and most importantly, the recipe to craft Whetstones.
Third Method: How to Farm Whetstone
Prefer farming Whetstones over crafting them? There are three key locations in Farbane Woods where you can reliably farm them, all conveniently connected by a looped path. Start your run at the Bandit Armory, which we’ve already covered. From there, head northeast toward the Bandit Stronghold. This area is home to Quincey the Bandit King, but don’t worry—he stays on the upper level, so you can safely farm the lower area without engaging him.
Once you’ve cleared out the Stronghold, continue heading east to reach a small Bandit Encampment. This final stop in the loop offers even more chances to pick up Whetstones. After looting the area, circle back to the Armory and repeat the route as needed for a steady supply.
