It is crucial to upgrade your Medicine Chest if you want to survive against some of the more challenging monsters in Where Winds Meet. Your healing capabilities do not remain static like in traditional action RPGs; they need to be upgraded with Yaoyao at the Evercare Clinic and collecting Medicinal Tales. This guide outlines how Medicine Chest ranks function, when you will unlock charges, and where to obtain various resources to craft and replenish medicine.
Raising Your Healing Capacity
To boost how many uses of medicine you may take into battle, everything revolves around Yaoyao and her Medicine Chest at the Evercare Clinic. You will start the game with only one use of medicine, and resting at Boundary Stone will refill whatever you currently have on you at the time. To increase this limit, you’ll need to find Medicinal Tales in your adventures.
When you chat with Yaoyao, you will notice an option that is called Submit Medicinal Tale, and each time you submit a sufficient number of Tales, the Medicine Chest levels up. It takes an unexpectedly large amount to completely finish leveling it up—the maximum level, which is Rank 13 requires a total of 90 Medicinal Tales.
These Medicinal Tales are mainly obtained through normal gameplay activities such as completing select quests, opening Exploration rewards, defeating world bosses, and clearing dungeons.
What Each Rank Actually Gives You
Not every rank increases an additional charge. There are a few ranks that may allow you to carry more medicines:
- Rank 5: 3 charges
- Rank 8: 4 charges
- Rank 11: 5 charges
The other ranks will not increase your charge limit but will enhance your healing in other ways, such as a stronger healing, minor defensive buffs from drinking a potion, or a slight regeneration effect based on the tier.
How to Acquire Medicinal Tales
Medicinal Tales serve as the currency to upgrade your Medicine Chest. These will come to you naturally through everyday activity in the world: helping NPCs, clearing optional areas, and discovering new locations. Side quests and Outposts encounters can especially yield a medicinal tale, although you can only obtain one from each Outpost. You will also get more simply through exploration.
