Turning The Bowl Choice Guide – Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the “Tea Ceremony” mission tests players in a delicate social interaction, testing their etiquette and attention skills. Besides plain old dialogue options that are quite standardized throughout the story, the crux is how properly the tea ceremony itself should be done. Specifically, the handling of the tea bowl becomes a crucial test, where the player’s understanding of the ritual is put to the forefront. This guide will clarify the nuances of the bowl turning choice, ensuring a smooth progression through this intricate quest.

The Tea Ceremony In Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Retrieve this quest from the Objective Board under the Onryo group, immediately below The Golden Teppo. Next, go to Imai Sokun’s residence and talk to him.

During your conversation, you’ll be given a dialogue choice:

  • “The tea ceremony is a spiritual experience.”
  • “It’s a place to make contacts.”

Your choice doesn’t affect the outcome, so feel free to pick whichever you prefer.

Start by speaking with the guest just outside the house to the left. She will ask for your name, and you can choose from the following options:

  • “My name is Shizuka.”
  • “My name is Sanuki.”
  • “My name is Shigure.”

No matter which name you pick, it doesn’t have to match what you chose in previous quests. The conversation will continue the same way.

Next, she gives you another dialogue choice:

  • “I had a good teacher.”
  • “I know the son well.”

No matter what your response, she will impose her social standing upon you, and the result is the same.

Speaking with the Older Woman

Move further inside to speak with an older woman, who will also ask your name. Again, you can choose:

  • “My name is Shizuka.”
  • “My name is Sanuki.”
  • “My name is Shigure.”

She then presents another set of choices:

  • “I’m friends with Master Sokyu.”
  • “I have contracts with the Imai.”

No matter what you say, she will laugh at you.

Speaking with the Third Woman

Move northeast to find another woman, who, like the others, asks for your name. Choose from the same three options. Then, you’ll get another choice:

  • “Of course I know you.”
  • “I’m new to Sakai.”

This leads to yet another choice:

  • “I didn’t say where I was from.”
  • “I’m from Nagasaki.”

Lining Up for the Bow

Finally, you’ll need to stand alongside the three women you spoke with and choose how to bow:

  • Bow head.
  • Bow halfway.
  • Bow deeply.

Imai Sokyu responds positively if you bow halfway, but no matter what you choose, the scene will progress.

Turning The Bowl Choice In The Tea Ceremony

Once you have completed talking with the guests, you can duly conduct the Tea Ceremony with Master Sokyu. The ceremony involves several steps and is a test of memory based on what you have learned from Sen No Rikyu through your training.

When it comes to turning the tea bowl, you have a few options:

  • Turn the bowl left twice.
  • Turn the bowl right twice.
  • Do not turn the bowl at all.

Master Imai Sokyu responds positively if you turn the bowl right twice. However, regardless of your choice, the scene will continue.
