The Price Of Healing Quest Walkthrough – Tainted Grail

In Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, “The Price of Healing” quest puts you in the middle of a desperate situation, Cuanacht’s hospital is on the verge of shutting down, and its lone healer, Ailei, can’t keep up. Your choices here shape the town’s future. Whether you rally local merchants or turn to the Red Priests, your actions will determine if the hospital survives or fades into memory.

How to Begin The Price Of Healing Quest

As you journey through Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you’ll come across many people in need, but few situations are as urgent as the crisis at Cuanacht’s hospital. Ailei, the sole healer, is drowning in work and on the brink of collapse. If no one helps, the place might shut down entirely. To start this quest, head to the fast travel point in Cuanacht, then walk past the Menhir toward a long building—that’s the hospital. If you hit the estate bridge, you’ve gone too far. Inside, you’ll find Ailei speaking with a patient—you can either wait or jump into conversation. Right away, she won’t hand over the reins, but you can lend a hand with one of her more difficult cases—a stubborn patient named Wilbur.

Wilbur won’t budge on treatment until he sees his family again. Unfortunately, they’ve been taken to the Island Asylum, and they aren’t coming back. The best you can do is visit his abandoned house in the quarantined area, pick the lock, and collect a few sentimental items: a letter, a note on the wall, and a teddy bear tucked above the wardrobe. When you return to Wilbur, he mistakes you for his grandchild. Play along. To comfort him, respond with these lines:

  • “You gave it to me when my father died.”
  • “As its flame burns, warding man from beast.”
  • “Brave Grandpa will chase it away evermore!”

That’ll be enough to calm him, and he’ll agree to get treated—handing you five gold coins to thank you. Once that’s done, check in with Ailei again. She’ll admit that she can’t keep running things solo, and it’s time to find outside help.

Rallying Support from the Town

Ailei asks you to look for help, either from the town’s shopkeepers or the Red Priests. She’d really rather avoid the priests, so your best bet is starting with the marketplace.

First up is Alwyn. Convince him to support the idea of a “miracle hospital,” and he’ll open the door to other merchants getting involved. From there, you’ll need to meet some very specific (and sometimes odd) demands:

  • Erwin will join in if you bring him a list of rare herbs and ingredients: 5 daffodils, 3 mandrakes, 3 Strawchild skulls, and 2 vials of Fae’s Blood.
  • Osmund wants a magical weapon known as Robbie’s Bow. It’s hidden in a swamp crypt. Warning: once he gets it, he breaks it—so don’t hand it over unless you’re fine losing it for good.
  • Bonxie is the trickiest. It’s a gamble whether she’ll agree, so definitely save beforehand. If she does come around, you’ll have to drop 2,000 gold to buy her entire inventory. Only then will she promise to help gather medical materials.

Once everyone’s on board, head back to Alwyn to confirm the plan. Then update Ailei, and check back in a few days to see how the hospital is thriving under new support.

When the Priests Are Your Only Option

If the merchants turn you down—or you fail their tasks—your last resort is turning to the Red Priests. Head to their base in town and speak with Father Crispus upstairs. He’s more than willing to help fund the hospital… but there’s a catch.

The Red Church wants the hospital to drop all association with the All-Mother and instead back the Prophet. To make that happen, they’ll require you to build a shrine in their honor near the hospital grounds. Here’s what you’ll need to collect:

  • 15 rocks
  • 5 roses
  • Sir Estor’s Fingernail (yep, you read that right)

Roses can be picked from bushes outside the city, and rocks are scattered across caves and mines. If you’re short on stone, a chest in the Miner’s Tunnels has eleven. As for the fingernail, look for it buried near the ruins of a deserted village just north of the city.

Once you’ve got everything, talk to Ailei. She won’t be thrilled about it, but she’ll agree to let you build the shrine. Make sure your Practicality stat is at least level 4 to construct it. After it’s up, report back to Crispus.

Whichever Path You Choose, The Hospital Lives On

Whether you rally the merchants or strike a deal with the Red Church, your efforts won’t go to waste. Ailei gets the break she desperately needs, the people of Cuanacht keep access to healing, and the hospital survives. Stick around a bit longer, and you’ll see the difference your help made—and unlock the Ailei’s Healthcare System achievement as a reward for your trouble.
