A commander misplacing the safe key is what we’d expect the least, but here we are. If you’re stuck and distracted in The Outer Worlds 2 trying to figure out where the Commander’s Safe Key got off to, this quick guide will walk you straight there so you can break in to your stash early on.
Where to Look for the Commandor’s Safe Key?

Misplacing your Safe Key doesn’t exactly sound right, but let’s just say this is the after-effect of having years’ worth of cryo on your mind. If your brain is foggy on where the Commander’s Safe Key is, start off with the engine room that branches off from the main conference area.

Once you step inside, stick close to the engine and move around behind it. There are some pipes in the way, so be ready to crouch and go through a narrow gap.

Keep an eye on the floor to your left. The key is tucked between two metal railings behind the engine, almost like someone dropped it and gave up looking. Grab it, and you’re good to head back and unlock the commander’s safe.
What’s Inside the Safe?
Opening it nets you a handful of helpful early-game items: Tossball Card: Eva Wierzbicki – boosts your Toxicity Crash Threshold by +1, 314 bits, 2 Bypass Shunts etc.
It’s a small stash, but a handy one. Early on, those Shunts and Mag-Picks are worth their weight in bits, especially once you reach Paradise Island and start breaking into doors and terminals. Tossball Cards are great to collect too—they permanently improve your stats. This one increases how much toxicity you can handle before the crash kicks in, letting you rely on your inhaler more often without the downside.
