In The Outer Worlds 2, if you want a weapon that gives you a noticeable edge right from the start, keep an eye out for the Burst Bio Mass Pistol. It hits hard, fires fast, and you will get a real kick out of using it. The best part? You don’t have to spend a single credit to add it to your arsenal.
Where to Go First
Make your way over to Fairfield and head to the Soldiers’ Training Grounds. Once you are there, go toward the right side. You will see a lot of soldiers firing on the left, but pay them no mind and focus on the small house you’ll find nearby. Go in and you will see Kaur’s War Chest just sitting there, almost teasing you.
But here is the catch… it’s locked, and you need either a level 5 Lockpicking skill or a key to open it.
Locating the Key & Claiming the Burst Bio Mass Pistol
To obtain the key, head back toward the central building of Fairfield, this is the same building associated with your main quest, early in the game. Inside, you will encounter Minister Milverstreet and Officer Kaur during the story. After you have completed your initial conversation with them, you’ll have to move on to the sneaky part. Carefully, when one of them has their back turned around, you’ll have to pickpocket them to get the key.
Note: If you haven’t unlocked pickpocketing yet, it is easy to do so. Put one point into the Lockpicking skill and then select the Pickpocket perk. That’s all you need.
Now that you have the key in your possession, return to the training grounds. Ensure no one is watching you and open the chest. Inside the chest is a pile of credits and the weapon you came for, which is the Burst Bio Mass Pistol.

The Burst Bio Mass Pistol isn’t just a cool name—it’s genuinely useful. Its firing speed outshines most early weapons and it unloads bursts rapidly, turning fights in your favor. On top of that, it comes with some great modifiers:
