The Invitation is the very first mission in the new Destiny 2 DLC. In this mission, you’ll fight through dangerous areas, face tough new enemies, and unlock a brand‑new ability called Matterspark that lets you roll through vents and power up panels. Along the way, you’ll take on big boss fights, explore new locations, and even step into a new social space on Kepler. This guide will help you step by step so you know exactly what to expect and how to complete the mission.
The Invitation Mission walkthrough in Destiny 2 DLC
Mission 1: The Invitation starts with a bit of a challenge. Your Power is set 20 levels below the recommended level, so enemies will hit harder. On Normal difficulty, there aren’t any extra modifiers, but if you’re playing on Legendary, be ready, enemies will show up in larger numbers, they’re tougher, heavily shielded, and far more aggressive than usual. It’s going to be a fight, so go in prepared.
Fight Through Kepler and Meet Ikora
Push your way through Kepler while clearing out waves of Fallen, including a new flying enemy type called Corsairs. When you reach Ikora, she’ll ask you to investigate the area further.
Locate a new location by following your HUD waypoint, then scan the terminal that is affixed to the wall. Once VII has interfered, enter the next building and engage with the dark matter to activate Matterspark, your first new power.
Navigating with Matterspark
Use Matterspark to change into a ball, roll down the stairs, and enter the vent on your right. Go all the way through the tubing.
- If you run low on Matterspark energy, use the panels along the path to recharge.
- Finally, turn on a switch and open the door using Matterspark.
You’ll then see a Rally Banner spot, plant your banner and get ready for a fight.
Boss Fight: Exile Overseer
The Exile Overseer is a large Servitor with two health bars.
- When you drop its health to halfway, you’ll need to charge two pylons:
- The first is near the cliff edge, reach it through a pipe.
- The second can be accessed by a conduit on the lower rocks inside a cave.
- The first is near the cliff edge, reach it through a pipe.
Once both pylons are charged, the Overseer becomes vulnerable again. Finish it off with your Super and your weapons. Watch out for Fallen Brigs that spawn as their health gets low. Collect your loot before moving on.
Crystallised Captain Encounter
In the next area, a Crystallised Captain appears. Defeat it, then charge three pylons.
- You will have to deal with a Resolute Heavy Shank for every pylon you charge.
After collecting your treasure, including the necessary material, return to the Mechanism by following your HUD waypoint. Before you reach it, there’s another Rally Banner spot and another major fight coming.
Boss Fight: Vessel of the Archon
You’ll now face three Archon‑like Fallen called the Vessel of the Archon.
- If you defeat one, two more will appear, and one of them will become invisible.
- You must enter the dome where the invisible one hides in order to harm it.
Grab your prize, which includes a Mysterious Object, once all three have been defeated. To meet Lodi and start a cutscene, use the Mechanism. To complete the mission after the cutscene, proceed through the train and talk to Lodi once more by following the waypoint.
After the Mission
Back on Kepler, you’ll find yourself in a new social space. To integrate the Strangelet Capsule, proceed to the Altar of Relativity.
You will discover that the item is powered down when you get close to it. To power it back up, follow the waypoints to two levers (one on each side of the building) and perform the Rite of Ignition. After completing the Rite of Maintenance and returning to the Altar, integrate the Strangelet Capsule to proceed.
You’ll now receive the official Edge of Fate quest, which has 31 steps.
Moving Forward
- Meet Dean Rebecca, then hunt down a Vex Mind. Defeat Vex, deposit the motes into the conduit, and claim your reward from the chest.
- Interact with the terminal to get Rosetta. After you get back to Dean Rebecca, collect telemetry data from other surrounding areas.
Meet Orin, who lives south of Caldera, after that. Return to the Altar of Relativity, where you will find two quests:
- Central Academy
- Exile’s Accord
To advance in the Edge of Fate campaign, finish both.
