The First Berserker: Khazan – How To Beat Yetuga

Ever and ever-a soulslike, it had innumerous bosses to cast you over the brink of skill limits. Though Yetuga is not the overwhelming challenge that the game offers, it does give a worth using fight on the introduction to the bosses beyond.

It is the tutorial boss, however, which immerses players in the basic mechanics Reflection (perfect parry), which helps with depleting their Stamina Gauge. You’ll also learn how to counter their aggressive moves while managing your own Stamina, so it becomes a really fast-paced but rewarding battle right from the start.

How to Defeat Yetuga in The First Berserker: Khazan

The Yetugas are a lot like any other Yeti in the game, only less in that their super-larger pool of life points suggests they’re more. In most boss settings, mastering the Brink Guard is essential. Observe a posture bar under the boss’s health; this bar drains whenever you perform Brink Guards or damage it. When the posture bar empties completely, you can perform a devastating strike for a great deal of damage.

With a little practice, you can pretty much easily guard against Yetuga’s attacks and manage stamina better for a more efficient victory, but don’t overextend too much on extra hits. You’ll just end up getting hit by its punishing 4-hit combo, forcing you to retreat and heal. To dodge Yetuga’s grab attacks, keep your ears open and, really, pay careful attention to audio cues, because most of the time you’ll have to react to it with the given cues.

When the second phase begins, Yetuga pounds its chest before attempting to lift a massive chunk of debris. This brief window is an excellent opportunity to land multiple hits. Keep your lock-on active throughout the fight, and when the boss leaps into the air for a rock throw, be prepared to dodge in either direction. A successful dodge allows you to quickly dash in for additional attacks before Yetuga resumes its assault.

If you lose to Yetuga multiple times, you’ll notice that the game grants Lacrima based on the damage dealt to the boss. This happens with every defeat, enabling you to accumulate Lacrima and upgrade your stats, gradually making the fight easier.

Note: In the second phase, Yetuga also introduces a new grab attack with a different animation but the same audio cue. Reacting with quick reflexes can help you evade it at the last moment, creating an opportunity to counterattack.

Breakdown of Yetuga’s Attacks in The First Berserker: Khazan

Yetuga can be found near the Battered Blade Nexus in Yeti’s Domain. Follow the main path until you reach the area where you can push down a cart to create a shortcut to the Blade Nexus. Take a moment to rest, upgrade your stats, and then head left to reach the boss arena.

Here are all the attacks Yetuga uses during the fight:

  • 2-Hit Combo: Yetuga initiates a two-hit attack, starting with a left-hand slam followed by a backhand strike. This combo is easy to guard, but avoid overextending once it ends.
  • 4-Hit Slap Combo: A standard four-hit sequence that Yetuga performs periodically. If you time your guards correctly, it’s one of the easiest attacks to block. After the final hit, the boss briefly stumbles—use this moment to sprint in and land a fully charged attack.
  • Back Plunge: When you’re positioned behind Yetuga, it falls backward to attack. This move is telegraphed well, making it easy to block, but be cautious, as Yetuga quickly follows up after getting back on its feet.
  • Jumping Strike: Yetuga dashes backward before leaping forward to punch you. If it misses or you parry the attack, its hand gets stuck in the ground, giving you an opportunity to unleash a fully charged hit.
  • Slam: The boss beats its chest before slamming the ground near you. Using a Brink Guard here is the best way to maintain your offensive momentum.
  • Leaping Grab: Yetuga retreats before lunging forward in an attempt to grab you. This attack is unblockable, but it comes with a distinct audio cue—time your dodge carefully to avoid getting caught.
  • Giant Rock Throw: Unlike its standard rock throws, this move is exclusive to the second phase. Yetuga lifts a large piece of debris, jumps into the air, and hurls it toward you. Dodge to either side to evade the impact.
  • Ice Beam: Yetuga retreats to a corner and channels ice energy before unleashing a wide ice beam. As soon as you see it preparing this attack, rush toward the boss and stay close, slashing at its torso to interrupt or avoid the beam.
