“The Animancy Method” is a lengthy main quest in Avowed, offering multiple paths to completion. As the envoy, you must assist Giatta and her people with their Animancy project, a journey that will take you across Dawnshore. Along the way, you’ll progress through various objectives and encounter several optional missions. Your past expeditions have earned you a reputation, making you a sought-after figure among leaders who will request your help in solving their problems.
This guide provides a comprehensive walkthrough of the quest, detailing its initiation, key objectives, possible outcomes, and the rewards you can earn. Completing this quest is essential for advancing the main storyline.
How to Begin the Animancy Method Quest
The Animancy Method main quest in Avowed automatically begins after completing An Untimely End. Your journey takes you to Emerald Stairs, where you encounter Yatzli at Maxim’s Claw, under attack by Sporelings. After assisting her, she offers a side quest to retrieve the Godless Vase from a nearby tower.
Finding Governor Ignassi Vidarro
After helping Yatzli, head northwest to the Coastal Farms, using the Adra Waystone as a landmark. Continue in this direction to reach Fior mes Iverno, where you will meet Captain Aelfyr of the Steel Garrote.
Following a brief conversation, locate Governor Ignassi Vidarro to advance the quest. If you struggle to find his manor, follow the noise from the crowd.
At first, the governor dismisses you, stating he has more pressing matters. However, once you mention you were sent by Ambassador Hylgard, he begins discussing the situation at Emerald Stairs. Your envoy suggests a solution involving animancers, which the governor is reluctant to accept. However, Giatta is confident that animancy can help.
Meeting Giatta and Completing Her Tasks

After speaking with the governor, proceed to Giatta’s home, located southwest of the town, behind Bone and Boar. She gives you three objectives, which can be completed in any order:
1. Speak to Elia Rossell at the Revenant Farm
2. Speak to Ivette and Remi at the docks
3. Speak to Monto at the Animancy Workshop in Fior mes Iverno
Giatta mentions that these animancers owe her a favour and possess valuable intelligence. Two of the tasks require combat or item collection.
Defeating Silvo the Revenant (Elia’s Task)
It is best to start with Elia Rossell, as her request involves defeating Silvo the Revenant. Once he is defeated, return to Elia and ask about her knowledge of the Dreamscourge.
Speaking to Ivette and Remi at the Docks
Next, head to the docks and speak with Remi and Ivette. Their conversation is straightforward, and they will readily share the information they have.
Retrieving the Adragan Heart for Monto
Finally, visit Monto at the Animancy Workshop. Instead of combat, his request requires retrieving the Adragan Heart from Delemgan Glade.
Acquiring the Adragan Heart
Upon reaching Delemgan Glade, you have two choices:
- Peaceful Approach: Walk in without hostility and engage in a conversation with the Delemgan Queen. She will willingly hand over the Adragan Heart, allowing you to complete this task without violence.
- Combat Approach: If you attack or your cover is blown, you must fight the Delemgan Queen and her forces. This boss fight is time-consuming, but you can loot the Adragan Heart from her remains.
Once you have the Adragan Heart, return to Monto, place it in his contraption, and he will share everything he knows.
Completing the Quest and Giatta’s Reward
After completing all three objectives, return to Giatta. She will reward you with Giatta’s Basement Key. Use the key to access the basement on the right side of Giatta’s house, leading to the Castell Family Lab. Proceed to the end of the lab to retrieve the Phantasmal Focus.
Once you have the Phantasmal Focus, return to Giatta. She will then join you as a companion, marking the completion of the main quest.
