In Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you will face one huge decision-making opportunity when meeting Caradoc at the Altar of the Forgotten God. This guide covers the process of reaching him, knowing what to expect during the encounter, and then deciding whether you ask a question or claim that powerful artifact he offers.
Locating Caradoc
Players must find Caradoc after traversing through the Horns of the South. He is situated at the Altar of the Forgotten God, located north beyond the Lake of Blood-a name you are likely to hear soon after having to escape from the shipwreck beach.
To get there:
- Face northwest as you leave the beach.
- Head up the mountain trail on your right.
- Stay on the road as it climbs—you’ll pass broken walls and a bandit-occupied area.
- Stick to the path along the mountain’s edge.
- Eventually, you’ll reach a Druidic Altar (optional stop: offer pelts, fangs, or horns for bonus loot).
- Continue on until you see a statue of a bow-wielding woman—that’s your sign you’re close.
- You will find Caradoc in front of you at the stairs.
First Encounter with Caradoc
When you speak to Caradoc, don’t expect a warm welcome. He’s visibly upset, and the conversation might get a bit tense—especially if you’ve been keeping the whole “Arthur’s spirit is still with me” thing under wraps.
Regardless of how you handle the dialogue, he’ll eventually share some interesting news:
- He’s slain a dangerous Beast.
- Inside its den, he found a mysterious artifact.
Important Choice: Question or Artifact?
At this point, Caradoc gives you two options:
1. Ask one truthful question (though it’s a bit of a trap—he’s testing you).
2. Accept the artifact he found.
Pro Tip: Always pick the artifact! It’s something that amps up your base Health by 5. Totally worth it.
Exploring the Beast’s Lair
Once you’ve taken the artifact and wrapped up your talk with Caradoc (feel free to dismiss him—he’s not that helpful afterward), make sure to explore the Beast’s Lair:
- There’s a loot chest inside.
- Right behind the corpse of the creature, you’ll find a Questing Beast Egg.
- If you raise it with care, the egg will hatch into a Questing Beast Hatchling, which becomes a loyal pet companion for the rest of your adventure.
