Sylux Final Boss Guide – Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Sylux is the final challenge you will face in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Taking place at the very top of the Chrono Tower, this final battle uses everything you’ve learned. Sylux uses multiple attack styles and fights you through three phases. In this guide, we will tell you where to find Sylux and explain what Sylux does in each phase and how to counter his attacks so you can defeat him and finish the story.

Sylux Location in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

You face Sylux for the final time at the very top of the Chrono Tower. Once you hand over all the Master Teleporter Keys to the Master Teleporter, a short cutscene plays. As soon as it ends, Sylux appears, and the final boss battle begins. Before you can move forward, you will need to collect all six Mech Parts and gather enough Green Energy Crystals to create the Memory Fruit. Once that’s done, head back to Base Camp and talk to Duke to continue to the Chrono Tower.

How to Beat Sylux

When you’re ready to continue, just confirm and move ahead. Enter the Chrono Tower, take the elevator up, then follow the Psychic Spider Ball tracks to the top. Activate the terminal at the Pinnacle, and a cutscene will trigger where Sylux shows up to confront everyone.

The boss fight is split into three phases. In the first phase, you will battle Sylux together with your Federation teammates. In the second phase, you’re pulled away from them and dragged into a psychic tunnel, where you have to fight alone.

The third and final phase is the hardest. Sylux throws out powerful shockwaves, wide beam attacks, and directional blasts that you will need to dodge carefully. Some attacks force you to roll into a Morph Ball to avoid them, and he can even use his own Morph Ball to drain your energy if you’re not careful.

Phase – I

As soon as the fight starts, Sylux can’t be hurt at all. Three nano arms grow out of his body, and you can only damage the glowing green tips. Aim at these spots while he swings his arms around, trying to hit you. Each arm doesn’t take much damage.

Once a glowing tip breaks, rush in and use the Psychic Lasso to tear the arm off. Sylux will then go berserk and chase you around the arena, trying to ram Samus. Do these two more times to remove all three arms. When they’re gone, Sylux is briefly exposed. Use this chance to hit him hard with missiles.

  • After taking some damage, the nano arms grow back in a dragon form. In this phase, only the large metal heads can be damaged.
  • His attacks now include firing three fireballs in an arc and shooting angled fire beams. Stay at a distance and let your allies draw his attention.
  • Watch out for fireballs leaving small lava patches on the floor. Once the attack ends, move to a safer area of the arena.
  • If a dragon head starts glowing blue, it’s about to jump and grab you. Dodge quickly, because getting caught deals massive damage.
  • After enough damage, the arms revert, and Sylux grows a fourth arm. He also adds a new attack where he slams all his arms down and spins around. Just double-jump over it to avoid damage.
  • Once again, focus on damaging the glowing tips, ripping off each arm, and attacking Sylux during the brief opening.
  • Next, Sylux summons ice nano arms. These introduce two new attacks: shooting icicles that can freeze Samus, and pulling you toward him before dealing damage.
  • To avoid the icicles, keep dodging in one direction around the arena. If he starts pulling you in, hold back on the Left Stick to resist it. The Super Fire Shot works really well during the pull attack since it can hit multiple arms at once.
  • After enough damage or time passes, the arms return to normal. Repeat the usual cycle of destroying arms and attacking Sylux when he’s vulnerable. He will also add a spinning attack where he moves around the arena. Use the Morph Ball to escape quickly.
  • When Sylux loses about 20% of his health, he switches to electric nano arms. These fire-bouncing electric orbs strike the ground with lightning.
  • When lightning hits, look for purple warning circles on the ground and move to a safe spot. The Boost Ball helps you get there fast.

Your allies struggle to dodge these electric attacks, so focus on keeping them alive instead of dealing damage. If any of your allies get knocked down, revive them immediately. If Sylux finishes them off, the fight ends. Keep repeating this process until Sylux takes enough damage to trigger a cutscene and move the fight into the next phase.

Phase – II

Once Sylux loses about 40% of his health, he opens a wormhole and drags Samus into it. It’s an on-rails section where you can only move Samus up, down, left, or right. As you both fall, keep shooting Sylux and watch out for energy blades that pop out from the walls. When they appear, quickly move in the opposite direction to dodge them.

  • Sylux will fire blaster shots and use a psychic whip. Both attacks are easy to avoid by moving away from the side he attacks from.
  • His most dangerous move is a pair of spinning blades that you can’t dodge normally.
  • To counter this, guide a Control Beam through the spinning blades and hit Sylux from behind. This will stun him and stop the attack.

Shooting Sylux drops plenty of health pickups to heal up from earlier damage. Keep attacking him until his health drops to around 50%, which will push the fight into the final phase.

Phase – III

Sylux uses a mix of dangerous attacks, including shockwaves, wide beam sweeps, and blasts that come from specific directions. Some of these can only be avoided by rolling underneath them in Morph Ball. He will also try to steal your energy by using his own Morph Ball. When this happens, you can fight back by charging into him while you’re in Morph Ball to regain your lost energy.

  • At the start of the phase, pick your preferred element and start shooting Sylux as he moves around. Early on, he mainly uses Energy Beam, Rush, Slam, and Wave attacks.
  • Sylux uses several energy-based attacks, but most of them are easy to avoid once you know what to do. He slams the ground and sends a shockwave in every direction. Simply double-jump to avoid it.
  • Sylux fires a wide beam straight ahead at chest level. Go into the Morph Ball to avoid it. Later, he will also fire beams at ground level, which you will need to jump over.
  • He charges straight at you with energy in front of him. Roll into a Morph Ball and go underneath him. He drags his gun across the floor, sending a small wave forward. Dash left or right before it reaches you.
  • Sylux moves to the centre and charges his cannon. Once ready, he shoots an energy whip to grab you. Avoid this by staying in the Morph Ball and moving around the outer edge of the arena.
  • He teleports around while absorbing your shots into a giant eye. Turn on your visor and fire a Control Beam directly into his body to stun him.
  • Sylux turns into a Morph Ball and slams into you, stealing an Energy Tank. Chase him with the Boost Ball, ram into him, and take it back.
  • While he’s in Morph Ball form, he leaves electric traps behind. Roll carefully around them to avoid damage.
  • Most of his attacks have clear wind-ups, giving you enough time to react and dodge. Keep firing Missiles or elemental shots until Sylux switches into Morph Ball mode.
  • When he boosts toward you in Morph Ball form, don’t let him hit you. If he does steal an Energy Tank, boost after him, knock it loose, and drop bombs near him while he’s stunned.
  • After recovering, Sylux usually returns to his normal form. Switch back as well and continue dodging while dealing damage.
  • Later in the fight, Sylux will teleport out and reappear with his cannon pointed upward. If you see a giant eye forming above him, immediately switch to your visor.

Fire a charged Control Beam directly at Sylux to stop this move. Now, the fight stays mostly the same. Sylux just uses his attacks more often, without adding anything new. Once you defeat Sylux, a cutscene plays, marking the end of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
