In the Stink and Burn side quest, you will find yourself caught between an old man and a witch, and it’s not as straightforward as it first seems.

To begin, head south of Cuanacht, near a wooden bridge. Look for a barrel next to a cart. As you get close, you will see the option to interact with it. You need to speak to Lemuel, an old man hiding inside the barrel. Talk to him, and you will learn he is on the run from a witch named Karla. He will ask you to find her and convince her to leave him alone.

Karla’s Side of the Story

You can find Karla in one of the tents near a Wyrdtower, her exact location is marked on the map above. When you speak to her, things take a turn: Karla explains that she is actually the one who was wronged. She tried to help Lemuel, but he used her kindness against her, then spread lies that she bewitched him.

Helping Karla – The Incantation Path

If you choose to side with Karla, she will teach you a spell to use on Lemuel. Head back to the barrel and use the special dialogue option to recite the incantation, this ends the quest in Karla’s favor.

Helping Lemuel – The Combat Path

Or, if you decide to support Lemuel instead, you can attack and kill Karla and her followers. After compleating the quest successfully, you will get a reward of the Amulet of Fearful Man.
