Should You Tell Nobunaga You Understand or Say Nothing in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players will be presented with critical dialogue choices, one of the first being a discussion with the powerful Oda Nobunaga. This exchange is a seemingly simple choice: should Diogo speak in understanding, or say nothing? While the game’s “Canon Mode” provides one path, the actual effect of this choice on the overall narrative is negligible. This introduction will discuss the subtleties of this choice, outlining how each choice changes the immediate interaction without fundamentally altering the primary narrative, so players can make an educated decision based on what kind of role-playing experience they want.

Should You Tell Nobunaga You Understand or Say Nothing

In Canon Mode, Diogo chooses to speak up and tell Nobunaga that he understands, making it the “correct” decision in a sense. However, whether players speak up or stay silent doesn’t affect the main story, it only slightly changes how this encounter plays out. Choosing between “I Understand You Well” or staying silent doesn’t have any major impact on the story. Since this is the game’s first dialogue choice and has no lasting consequences, you can simply pick whichever response you prefer.

Should You Tell Nobunaga You Understand in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

If the players tell Nobunaga that they understand him well, he’ll ask to speak with Diogo privately and question him about his skin color. He’ll then ask about Diogo’s relationship with the Portuguese before calling Valignano and the others back into the room. After that, the events unfold just as they would if the players had chosen to stay silent, Nobunaga ultimately agrees to Valignano’s request.

Should You Say Nobunaga Nothing in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

If the players stay silent, Nobunaga will call out Diogo for understanding Japanese and ask why he lied. At this point, players can either blame Valignano for the deception or say that Diogo is still learning the language and culture. However, this choice doesn’t change the outcome, no matter what they pick, Nobunaga will agree to Valignano’s request, but only if Diogo stays with him.
