In Doom: The Dark Ages Chapter 5, players can undertake the optional Layover challenge by discovering two secret dragon landing places. The hidden areas provide coveted rewards and may be visited early during the level. This short guide will assist you in finding both locations before reaching the point of no return.
What is the Layover Challenge?
In Chapter 5 of Doom: The Dark Ages, the Layover is an excellent optional challenge requiring players to unlock two secret dragon landing zones. To complete the Layover, you must dismount your dragon at both landing zones. They will not appear on the map immediately; you must first unlock them. Both are within the open zone for attacking the Hell Carriers, so delay moving on to the next stage of the mission for now.
Landing Zone #1: Tower Titan Fight

After the quick dragon-riding tutorial, enter an open-air area. Once your objective updates to “Destroy the Four Hell Carriers”, do not rush right away. Instead, make a left and look for a towering structure with a giant titan atop it; take this beast down to open up one of the secret landing zones.
There is also a Gore Nest here; clear it to obtain a Demonic Essence that raises your max stats, and grab some gold beside it. With that taken care of, it’s time to set sail for the second spot.
Landing Zone #2: Pit Garden

The second secret landing site is nearby. Below one of the hell carriers is a floating circular garden constructed above a steep hole. Make your way to the bottom of that hole where another titan awaits battle. Defeat it to reveal the next landing point.
There’s some good loot in this section, too. Look for a Pulverizer weapon skin, gold, and a glistening Ruby. To get it all, toss your shield to pick up the Red Keycard, use that to access the Ruby, then take the nearby trail of gold—straight to the weapon skin.
Challenge Reward
Unlocking both landing zones finishes up the Layover challenge and earns you a reward of 50 gold. There is much more to hunt throughout the game, and Chapter 6 is full of them, so keep on hunting!
