Rush the Gate Quest Guide in Borderlands 4

Rush the Gate is a big story mission in Borderlands 4 that puts you right in the middle of the fight against Idolator Sol. Teaming up with Rush and the Outbounders, you will defend your allies, push through Sol’s fortress, disable his massive airship, and finally face him in an intense boss battle. This guide will walk you through each step so you’re ready for the action and the rewards that come with it.

How to Start the Rush the Gate Quest

You can start Rush the Gate after finishing the main story quest One Fell Swoop. Head to Kairos in the Fadefields in Howl, where Rush will be waiting to give you the mission. This quest is recommended for level 10 and above. The rewards are worth it you will earn XP, money, Eridium, a rare SMG, plus cosmetics like the Casual Collection Vault Hunter Head and the Driftblade Vehicle.

The mission starts with Rush determined to strike back against Sol. It’s time to join forces with the Outbounders and take the fight directly to the enemy’s doorstep.

Checking on Rush

Start by entering the HQ and heading downstairs to check in on Rush. Once you have spoken with him, leave the HQ and follow your waypoint to a nearby area. Here, waves of enemies will attack. Wipe them out to defend the Outbounders.

After the battle, talk to Rhodes. Look above him to spot a Locust missile jump into the air and use your grappling hook to yank it free. Once that’s done, follow your quest marker to rendezvous with the rest of the Outbounders as they prepare to march on Sol’s fortress.

Sol’s Fortress

Join the convoy as it moves toward the fortress. Enemies will try to slow you down, so clear them out as you go. When the vehicle reaches a gate, grab a Locust canister from it with your grappling hook and toss it at the door to blow it open.

Move forward again, taking down the defenders in your path. After a short exchange of dialogue, activate the nearby elevator to continue deeper. More Order forces will be waiting at the top take them out, then regroup with Rush. When the Outbounders set their plan into motion, back away from the vehicle so it can detonate and clear a path. Once it explodes, enter the fortress through the smoking hole.

Inside the Fortress

The next stretch is packed with Order troops, so fight your way through until a gate opens. Here you will encounter a badass enemy you can either fight him head-on or slip past to save time. Keep following the route until you reach the airship hangar. Inside, you will see Sol’s massive airship. Kill off the nearby enemies, then activate the refueling platform to begin disabling it.

Disabling the Airship

Climb onto the platform in front of the ship and use your grappling hook to remove the two docking clamps. For the third clamp, head to the right, jump across to the far side of the hangar, and follow the path to the back of the ship. Pull that clamp loose too, and the airship will be left vulnerable.

Fighting Idolator Sol

Now it’s time to face Idolator Sol himself. Move forward, glide across to the platform at the back, and take the elevator up. You will have to sprint past some enemies, climb stairs, and eventually drop down into an arena where Sol is waiting.

He’s heavily armoured at first, so your weapons won’t hurt him. Watch for when he drops staffs one of them will glow green. Pick it up and throw it at him to strip away his armor. Once exposed, his weak spots are the glowing green bubbles on his body. Focus your fire there.

At certain points, Sol will plunge the arena into darkness. When this happens, quickly move into the glowing safe zones to avoid constant damage. Keep repeating the cycle of stripping his armor and attacking weak spots until you finally bring him down.

After the fight, loot Idolator Sol’s bolt from his body. With victory in hand, return to the Outbounders HQ to report back. This completes Rush the Gate and pushes the Outbounders one step closer to toppling Sol’s forces.
