Though the Dry Devil has a fearsome reputation, you will soon learn that he’s been captured. Rescue the Dry Devil in KCD2
The last mission of the Speak of the Devil main story quest requires you to save the Dry Devil. This takes a perilous turn when your party is ambushed, and you find yourself fighting in an intense 12v3 battle. If one is not cautious, this battle can easily become an almost unwinable situation, where you are all alone with too many to fight against. Don’t worry, however, as there is a good plan that can be used to turn the battle to your advantage.
In order to make it through the ambush, you must use the Pistole hand cannon to its fullest potential, which you picked up right before the battle. Although it feels somewhat clumsy, it’s extremely powerful and can kill even the most heavily armored foes with one shot. As soon as you regain control of Henry, your first move should be to push forward and locate the Captain leading the enemy forces. He stands out in his full black armor, complete with a helmet, making him an easy target.
Eliminating the Captain
The secret to winning this fight is taking out the Captain as fast as you can. If you let him continue on his path, he will rip through your companions and it would be hard to survive. As soon as you see him, point your Pistole and fire, a single hit will drop him right away. This single move can drastically improve your chances, preventing him from decimating your team and giving you a fighting chance.
Once the Captain is out of the way, keep using the Pistole to take down other armored enemies, while also assisting your allies to ensure they stay in the fight. Your allies play a crucial role in this battle, as they divert the attention of the enemy away from you, enabling you to take out enemies individually. By using this strategy, you can turn the tide of battle and achieve your mission successfully.
The second method is take out the Captain with your Pistole. Once he’s down, immediately turn around and look for a wagon cart full of straw. It’s not the one closest to you, but rather the one slightly behind it. Hop onto this cart and settle into the straw.
The remaining enemies will rush toward the cart, but since they can’t figure out how to climb up, they’ll just stand around with their weapons drawn, completely vulnerable. From here, you can easily pick them off one by one using your Pistole, bow, or crossbow.
The one major disadvantage to this approach is the enemy archers. Depending on where you place yourself, they can still target you, and it can get frustrating. In order to defeat this, simply take out the archers first before you hop onto the cart. Or else, you could position yourself such that melee-weapons-bearing enemies are in your way from reaching the archers.
Regardless of which approach you take, once all the ambush enemies are defeated, you’ll be able to successfully rescue the Dry Devil. With that, the Speak of the Devil main story quest will be complete, and you will have survived one of the toughest fights in the game with a clever strategy.
Tips
- As soon as the battle starts, locate the enemy Captain in full black armor and take him out with your Pistole. He is the biggest threat, as he can quickly eliminate your allies if left unchecked.
- The Pistole hand cannon is a one-shot kill weapon, even against heavily armored enemies. Prioritize using it against the strongest foes to thin out the enemy numbers quickly.
- Your teammates play a crucial role in keeping enemy attention off you. Help them whenever possible by eliminating enemies attacking them so they can stay in the fight longer.
- Enemy archers can be a nuisance, so try to position yourself behind melee enemies or objects to block their line of sight. If possible, eliminate the archers first to make the battle easier.
- If you’re struggling, jump onto the wagon filled with straw, the second one further back. Enemies will gather around but won’t be able to reach you, allowing you to pick them off safely with your Pistole, bow, or crossbow.
- While the wagon trick is useful, enemy archers can still hit you depending on your positioning. Either take them out first or use melee enemies as a shield to avoid getting shot.
- This fight can be long and grueling, so keep an eye on your stamina while attacking and blocking. Have healing items ready in case you take damage.
