In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, your decisions can decide your path, even to the texture of your clothing. The “Dress for Success” mission gives you an interesting choice, whether to wear a kosode of brash red Chinese silk or the elegant appearance of black Portuguese silk. Before making this choice, however, you’ll need to retrieve stolen silk from pirate ships, battling enemies along the way. This guide walks you through each step of the quest, from locating the merchant to claiming your silk and deciding which fabric best suits your assassin’s path.
“Dress for Success” Quest
“Dress for Success” is an important quest where you take on the Golden Teppo, one of your first major story targets. To complete it, you’ll need to assist a kosode maker in retrieving her silk so she can craft you a new outfit for a tea ceremony. However, finding both the merchant and the silk won’t be easy, as they aren’t clearly marked on the map.
In “Dress for Success,” your first task is to find a kosode, with a clue leading you to southwest Sakai. The merchant you need is located just south of the Money Changer District, near the bay in the city’s southern part, right next to a wooden tower.
Meeting the Merchant and the Silk Problem
As you approach the merchant, holding the Observe button will make a small blue dot pulse, helping you spot them. When you talk to the merchant, Naoe will mention that she urgently needs a special kosode. Unfortunately, the merchant can’t help, as all her silk has been stolen by pirates.
Setting Sail: Recovering the Stolen Silk
Once you’re charged with the retrieval of the pilfered silk from the pirates, turn around from the merchant, and you will see the Port of Sakai before you. Proceed to the water and board one of the little boats. From there, look out over the bay, you will see two big ships, also noted on your map. Begin heading towards them.
Exploring the Ships and Hidden Treasures
The silk you need is on the ship to the left, but before heading straight there, it’s worth stopping by the ship on the right. You’ll find a small treasure chest and a synchronization point.
When you’re ready, dock your boat on the leftmost ship and board it. Prepare to fight some pirate enemies before proceeding.
When it is safe to do so, find a chest in the middle of the ship, between a few explosive barrels. Remove the barrels from a distance to get rid of any remaining enemies, take the chest, and report back to the merchant.
Choosing Between Red Chinese Silk Or Black Portuguese Silk
When you bring back the silk to the merchant, she will express gratitude and request to make a special kosode out of either Chinese red silk or Portuguese black silk. At this point, a dialogue wheel will appear where you can choose your preference. No matter which silk you pick, the women at the tea party will still be rude to you, their reasoning just changes slightly.
