Hunting Legendary Animals is one of the most exciting things you can do in Red Dead Redemption 2. These rare creatures are tougher, bigger, and more valuable than their regular versions, and each one gives you unique pelts and parts you can use for special gear. This guide will tell you where you’ll find every Legendary Animal in the game and exactly where you can track them down.
All Legendary Animals Locations in RDR2
There are 16 Legendary Animals in Red Dead Redemption 2, but once you finish Chapter One and come down from the mountains, you’ll only be able to find 10 of them roaming freely in the world. The remaining three are tied to specific story missions or unlocked only after you reach certain Hunting Challenge milestones, so you won’t be able to hunt them right away.
Legendary Alligator

If you want to find the Legendary Alligator, head down to southeast Lemoyne. You’ll find it along the western shore of Lagras Lake, just a bit south of the main stretch of water. The Legendary Alligator becomes available after you finish the “Country Pursuits” mission in Chapter 4. Once that mission is done, you’ll be able to go out and hunt it.
Legendary Beaver

You can find the Legendary Beaver in eastern New Hanover. It’s located west of the Van Horn Trading Post, sitting on the north shore of a small pond that connects to the river just below the Elysian Pool. Skinning the Legendary Beaver gives you its pelt and the Legendary Beaver Tooth. You can take the tooth to any Fence to craft the Beaver Tooth Trinket, which is really useful because it slows down your weapon degradation by 10%, meaning your guns stay in good condition for longer.
Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear

You can hunt the Legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear only after you finish the mission “Exit Pursued By a Bruised Ego” in Chapter Two. Once that mission is done, the bear’s territory becomes available for you to explore. The Legendary Grizzly Bear roams the wild northern lands of Ambarino, especially around Grizzlies East. Look for it just north and a little west of O’Creagh’s Run.
Legendary Big Horn Ram

This ram can be found in Ambarino, just outside Valentine. Its territory is between Cattail Pond to the west and the Dakota River to the east, making it fairly easy to locate once you reach that area.
Legendary Boar

The Legendary Boar wanders the southern part of New Hanover, inside Bluewater Marsh. Look on the east side of the Kamassa River, where the wetlands meet the forested patches.
Legendary Buck

Head into West Elizabeth, deep in Big Valley, to find the Legendary Buck. It lives west of Mount Shann and north of Lake Owanjila. The area is open and scenic, perfect for spotting wildlife.
Legendary Cougar

You’ll come across the Legendary Cougar in New Austin, close to the southwestern edge of the map. It’s found west of Tumbleweed, in the rocky region of Gaptooth Ridge.
Legendary Coyote

The Legendary Coyote is in western Lemoyne, just outside Eris Field. If you move south of Dewberry Creek, you should enter its hunting grounds.
Legendary Elk

To find the Legendary Elk, travel to Ambarino, specifically the area east of Fort Wallace. It roams on the slopes south of Bacchus Bridge, so keep your eyes open around the treelines.
Legendary Fox

This fox lives in western Lemoyne, in the region called Scarlett Meadows. It tends to hang around Mattock Pond, which sits directly north of Rhodes.
Legendary Moose

The Legendary Moose is hidden in the far northeastern part of Ambarino, along the western banks of the Kamassa River.
Legendary Panther

Known as Giaguaro, the Legendary Panther lives in Lemoyne, south of Rhodes, in the war-torn area called Bolger Glade. Keep in mind: this animal only appears after you complete nine Master Hunter Challenges. The Legendary Giaguaro Panther will only show up after you reach rank nine in the Master Hunter Challenges. Once you hit that level, the panther finally becomes available to hunt.
Legendary Pronghorn

You can find the Legendary Pronghorn in New Austin, not far from Fort Mercer. Its territory stretches west of Rio del Lobo Rock, in the open plains of Rio Bravo.
Legendary Tatanka Bison

This bison lives in the southern edges of West Elizabeth, just south of Stillwater Creek. It’s also close to both MacFarlane’s Ranch and Thieves Landing, making it easy to reach.
Legendary White Bison

Travel to northwestern Ambarino to find the Legendary White Bison. It stays west of Barrow Lagoon, near the northeast shoreline of Lake Isabella, in snowy, icy terrain.
Legendary Wolf

The Legendary Wolf can be found in central Ambarino, right along the north side of the Dakota River. Its territory sits around Cotorra Springs, a geothermal area with plenty of wolf activity.
