The quest, Perilous Journey to the Grove, is a short but notable one that can be found relatively early on in The Outer Worlds 2. If you’re not talking with the NPCs while wandering around Fairfield, it would be easy to miss, but it is worth completing for not just the easy rewards, but also because it leads to a more lucrative quest—A Final Death for Gravity.
Where to Begin the Quest
While you roam around Fairfield, pause and talk with some of the locals instead of just going from marker to marker. Not every quest comes with an announcement, and being the silent protagonist makes even small side quests easy to miss.
You will need to locate Huell Chaudry, who can be easily distinguished by his attire that looks quite cheap. He can be found next to the bounty terminal, just north of the infirmary. After talking to Huell, he will explain about his partner named Jackson, who was in pursuit of a schematic for a product they were looking to profit from, when he mysteriously did not return. Offer to check on Jackson and this will initiate the quest.
Reaching the Grove to Find Jackson
Once it’s in your journal, the map will flag the spot you need to reach. Reaching the marked location is the real challenge though. While proceeding toward your objective, you will eventually come across a mountain that will block your way. But here’s the thing, do not go left; there are steep cliffs that will make your trip a lot longer and eventually turn it into a dead end. Go through the right and although it appears to be a longer route, it is the only practical way.
What You’ll Find There
As you approach the location, you’ll hear shouting. Look up and you’ll catch Jackson dramatically jumping off the top of a tall harvester. Two more individuals are still stranded on top of the structure. Speaking to them will open another quest, A Final Death for Gravity. Don’t worry about that one just yet—you can tackle it right after. For now, check Jackson’s body. Looting him will give you:
- The schematic Huell sent you after
- A pair of P.A.L.E. boots (hang onto these — they’ll be useful for the gravity-related quest)
Finishing the Quest
Once you’ve grabbed the items, head back to Fairfield and fill Huell in on what happened. He won’t be thrilled at the news, but he’ll still pay you for the trouble. The rewards you get are 180 XP and 350 Bits.
Though it’s not the most lucrative quest in the game, but completing it unlocks A Final Death for Gravity, which offers a much better payout and is worth knocking out right afterward.
