Orientation Quest Guide – Destiny 2

The Orientation quest in Destiny 2 picks up right after completing Paper Crane and leads you deeper into the mysteries of the Nine. This guide walks you through each objective, from tracking vestiges across Kepler to uncovering cryptic truths hidden within their eerie dialogue. With a mix of exploration, light combat, and story-driven interactions, it’s a smooth yet intriguing step in your ongoing progression.

Starting the Orientation Quest

If you’ve just completed the Paper Crane quest, you should already be in the same area where the Orientation quest begins. Since you’re already nearby, it makes sense to take on this quest next. Simply follow along through the same path shown during the quest, and you’ll have no trouble staying on course. Your primary goal is to seek out vestiges of the Nine’s presence across Kepler. Pretty soon, you’ll arrive at the first objective of finding the first location. There will be a few enemies you’ll need to clear out before proceeding. Once they’re dealt with, head into the marked area using Matterspark to complete the first interaction. With that, location one is done.

Next, using Matterspark make your way to the opposite side for the second location, where the subway is. Here, you’ll need to eliminate an Exiled Hermit and complete a short encounter. Though brief, the encounter is necessary. You may also want to clear any additional enemies in the area before continuing. Once that’s done, interact with the second objective you’ll find inside a room on the second floor with glass walls and no door.

Interacting with the Nine

The quest will then require you to locate nodes Five, Six, and Nine. To do this, teleport back to the Assimilated Easement. There’s one node located very close to your spawn point, so go ahead and interact with that one first. During this part, you’ll hear voices: Lodi asking questions like why you were taken and what the Nine want with you and IX responding by saying they need you and your gifts, and that you were called to serve. Orin’s voice warns you that they’re playing you and that you can cut the connection off.

For the remaining nodes, head over to the Curtilage Divide, you’ll have to fight off some enemies here but it shouldn’t be too hard. As you navigate your way, you’ll start hearing deeper dialogues from the Nine explaining their nature. They mention being tied to the planets of the Sapient System and how they’re divided into factions. Some understand their planetary arrangement while others see matter as a prison. This reveals a philosophical divide and even tension among the Nine.

The final interaction in this section reveals more manipulation and cryptic warnings. One of them claims you were made by fate for this task and speaks about quantum strings and stopping temporal vibrations. These strange and fragmented voices create a mysterious and eerie tone throughout the quest.

Final Steps and Completion

Once you’ve finished these interactions, your next destination is the Aionian Campus in Kepler. After completing the objective there, head back to the Stacks for the final part of the quest. You’ll hear Lodi ask the Nine for help, offering to act as a diplomat trying to find common ground. The Nine resist this idea and warn you not to offer yourself. However, Lodi insists that if they can do their part, it is their responsibility.

Once you complete the final objective and hear the last exchange, the Orientation quest will be fully wrapped up. The whole experience is fairly smooth and simple, so it shouldn’t take much time to finish. If you’re progressing through all the quests in order, this one flows seamlessly as part of the journey.
