If you want a build that spins around and burns everything to ashes, the Fire Whirlwind setup is perfect for that. It uses a fast, spinning attack that hits many enemies while turning your physical damage into powerful fire damage. With some smart skill choices and upgrades, you will deal tons of damage and clear mobs quickly. This build works great for both regular fights and big boss battles.
How To Use Fire Whirlwind Build
Your key ability here is Sweeping Strike. First, reset all your skill points so we can go through this step by step. Just putting a single point into Sweeping Strike is enough to turn it into a basic whirlwind attack. That’s all you need to get started. At this stage, it only deals physical damage and not fire.
To really power it up, you will want to invest 4 or 5 points into the ramp-up skill. This one boosts your damage and area of effect by 50%. Once upgraded, your whirlwind becomes much larger and stronger, hitting more enemies and covering nearly half your screen.
Rage and Attack Speed from the Warfare Tree
In the Warfare tree, you will want to level up the Rage skill all the way to 17. This lets you stack rage up to 4 out of 5 levels, and each stack adds 4% more damage. That’s a total of around 40% bonus damage, just from this skill. The only other thing worth doing here is putting six points into Weapon Proficiency. This boosts your attack speed, which means your whirlwind hits more often, helping you deal more damage faster.
Fire Damage Conversion and Energy Handling (Earth Tree)
The real power comes from the Earth tree. Start by putting six points into Divinity. Once you hit that, you unlock Earth Enhancement. Just drop two points there, then move on to Fire Imbuement. This is the key, it converts your physical damage into fire damage, which becomes more effective as you stack fire-related bonuses.
Head to the bottom-right of the Earth tree and put four points into Arcane Abundance’s energy regen skill (which gives you 1% energy back every second), and another four into the cost skill. That second part might sound weird, but making the skill cost more is actually important for maximizing the bonuses from your setup.
Flame Volley and Ring of Flame
Next, we bring in Flame Volley and Ring of Flame, which both use a mechanic called Amplify. Every time you activate them, they gain five Amplify stacks, and they get even more for every 15 energy you spend.
With just one point in Flame Volley, it starts orbiting around you. As you spend energy (like with your whirlwind), it builds up Affinity stacks. After enough buildup, Flame Volley will start firing off fireballs on its own while you focus on other things. It gets even stronger when you’re building up Rage stacks too.
Ring of Flame works in a similar way. Just one point makes it stay active all the time. If you hold down the button, it increases the radius and helps build Affinity faster. That’s why you actually want your whirlwind to cost more energy, it helps trigger all of this faster and boosts your overall damage.
Stacking Fire and Area Damage: Double Dipping Synergy
To really boost your damage, you can stack both fire and physical damage. Since your physical damage is converted into fire, both types of bonuses will apply, basically letting you double-dip for extra power. On top of that, area damage also helps, because both Whirlwind and Ring of Flame are area-based skills.
To take Ring of Flame even further, invest five points into Blazing Heat. This makes it deal up to 120% more damage to enemies close to the center of the ring. Plus, for every Amplify stack, it gets 20% bonus damage and 5% more radius, and with up to 20 Amplify stacks, that adds up fast.
You will want to keep pumping points into Ring of Flame so that each Amplify stack hits 4% harder, and also to stop it from losing Amplify when it activates. That way, it stays powered up longer. Let it orbit longer, too, max it out at level 17 to fully scale Amplify damage, and throw in an extra point into Conservation to help it stay active.
Over time, you will also want to max out Earth Enhancement and the bottom section of the Earth tree. That part gives even more fire and physical damage and helps with managing your energy reservation so your skills run smoother.
Amplify Scaling and Returning to Warfare Tree
The same idea applies to Ring of Flame, use Enhanced Amplify to build even more stacks, making the ring bigger and a lot more powerful.
If you have around 18 passive points left, head back into the Warfare tree and put another six points into Divinity. This unlocks a bonus Rage effect, which lets you build up more Rage stacks. More stacks mean more damage, so instead of being capped at 10 stacks for 40% extra damage, you can push it to 13 stacks and squeeze out even more.
You can also grab passives that boost spell damage, attack damage, and cast speed, and even pick up Spell Rage. This gives your spells more damage and faster casting the more Rage you have. That means Flame Volley will start shooting fireballs even faster.
Since you’re scaling both attack and spell damage, the Earth Wielder passive is a great fit, just four points in it boosts both. From there, you can continue investing to push your attack damage even higher.
Combustion, Ailments, and Final Passive Choices
Don’t forget about Combustion, it gives you 20% more fire damage and a 25% chance to cause an explosion whenever you kill a burning enemy. It’s a great passive for boosting both your damage and clear speed.
Back in the Warfare tree, max out Weapon Proficiency to increase your chance to apply ailments like burn. Since your weapon applies burn already, this helps enemies take even more damage over time. You will also want to max Battle Rage and Invoker of War (up to +8 each) to boost your chance of applying spell-based ailments, especially burn.
Boss Fights & Maxing Affinity
When facing a boss, your best strategy is to whirl around them in tight circles. Staying close helps you land all your damage consistently. Use your potions between attacks to stay alive.
Flame Volley could be stronger if it had more levels, it’s currently building up around 9 to 11 Affinity, while Ring of Flame is already sitting at 20, which is great. Try to invest extra skill points into anything that boosts Affinity gain for maximum effect. That’s when the build really shines, you will see absolute destruction on screen. If Flame Volley had better Amplify scaling and energy conservation, it would be even more deadly.
Attributes & Weapon Priorities
For stats, focus on Might and Vigor to stay tanky and wear heavy armor. When it comes to your weapon, look for ones with:
- Bonus fire damage
- Extra attack speed
- Weapon fire damage
With the right weapon and proper Rage scaling, you can pull off thousands of DPS, and that’s what makes this build so powerful.
