How to Defeat Takeda Shingen

Takeda Shingen is one of the strongest warlords of his era, and he doesn’t fight alone. He is accompanied by a demonic horned lion, uses a spear, and wears heavy armour, making him tough and dangerous. When his health drops to around 50%, he powers up by covering his spear in flames, which increases his damage.
First Phase
Whenever Takeda starts an attack, dash in quickly and land a few fast hits. When Takeda’s stamina gets low, hit him and use throwing weapons if you have them. Throwables push him into an exhausted state, letting you deal a good amount of damage.
- Takeda runs toward you and swings his spear from left to right. As soon as you see him charging, dodge or parry. He will stop for some time, giving you an opening to attack.
- He swings his spear, jumps, and then thrusts it forward. When he pulls the spear back, be ready to parry both hits or dodge away.
- A normal spear swing, followed by a hit with the back of the spear, then a downward slam. The first hit needs momentum, so you can dodge early.
- A fast punch to interrupt your attacks. It’s quick but weak; dodge if possible.
- Takeda charges his spear with yellow energy and thrusts forward. If it hits, he grabs and slams you. When you see the yellow glow, move back immediately.
- He spins while lifting his spear and becomes surrounded by a red aura, then slams it down. Use your Burst Break as soon as you see the red aura to cancel it.
Takeda slams his spear into the ground, creating a red circle. A demonic lion jumps out and attacks. Watch the red circle and dodge as soon as the lion leaps.
Second Phase
In the second fight, Takeda merges with his corrupted lion, becoming a big four-armed beast standing on two legs. He is fast and can increase his attack damage with red or green energy.
- He jumps high and slams the ground with his lower arms, creating an AOE. When he jumps, create distance while he is in the air.
- Takeda spins and slashes with his lower arm. Block with a guard when you see the spin start.
- He pulls back both lower arms, then moves forward with a grabbing uppercut. This deals a lot of damage. Move back when you see both arms pulled back.
- Takeda moves back and glows with a red aura, then drags his arm along the ground before a heavy swipe. Use Burst Break immediately to stop it.
- He drops to his knees, moves forward, and slams all his arms down. Dodge when he raises all his arms.
- Similar to the normal slam, but hits twice. Dodge the first slam, then be ready to dodge again when he raises his arms for the second hit.
- He punches with all four arms, spins, and ends with a wide claw slash. You can guard through the punches or dodge.
Takeda backflips, lands with a claw slash, follows with a leg sweep, and finishes with a ground slam. Block the slash and sweep, then move away before the final slam.
Engulfed State Attacks
When Takeda is fully empowered, he gets additional high-damage moves.
- He forms a large red-and-green energy ball and throws it at you. It moves slowly, so move back and avoid it.
- He jumps around the arena, hangs from the ceiling twice, and ends with a flipping slam. After the second ceiling pause, dodge it.
- Takeda jumps and stomps, causing the ground to explode in an AOE. Create distance immediately when he jumps.
- He raises all four arms and slams them down, starting a powerful explosion. As soon as all arms go up, move away fast.
Since you will be keeping your distance, most of these attacks won’t even connect, making them easy to dodge and punish. Once you follow his attack pattern, Takeda becomes one of the easiest bosses in the game.
