In Silent Hill f, you’ll come across the Mural Puzzle inside the Dark Shrine Rooms, right after the fight with your parents in the Shimizu Residence. This puzzle is key to moving the story forward, as solving it unlocks the path to Ebisugaoka Corrupted (Fog Town), the next main chapter. This guide will walk you through how to collect each Crest and how to place them on the mural for every ending.
Mural Puzzle Location in Silent Hill f
You’ll run into the Mural Puzzle in the Dark Shrine Rooms right after defeating your parents in the Shimizu Residence. Once you head down the long hallway, the puzzle will be waiting for you. The exact solution changes depending on which ending you’re working toward, but the Crest locations never change, no matter what difficulty you’re playing on. Solving the Mural Puzzle unlocks the path to Ebisugaoka Corrupted (Fog Town), which is the next main story chapter after the Dark Shrine Rooms.
Mural Puzzle Solution (All difficulties)
You won’t be able to solve the puzzle right away. First, you’ll need to explore the nearby rooms and collect the three crests the Fox Mask, the White Sparrow, and the Black Sparrow. Once you have them, return to the mural to continue. On either side of the mural’s frame are two scrolls. Reading them will add the riddle to Hinako’s journal, so you won’t have to keep coming back to check the walls.
Black Sparrow Crest
You’ll find the Black Sparrow Crest in the Western Chambers of the Dark Shrine Rooms. To get it, you first need to clear out all the enemies in the area only then will the box open. Once you’ve picked up the Crest, look to the east side of the chamber. There’s a hidden room behind an illusory wall. Break through, activate the talisman inside, and that will lead you out.
White Sparrow Crest
The White Sparrow Crest is hidden in the Southern Chambers of the Dark Shrine Rooms. When you enter, you’ll be met by a Drum Monster along with several Blade Legs Monsters guarding the area. Take them all out to unlock the box holding the Crest. Keep in mind that a few of these enemies are tucked away behind illusory walls, so the box won’t open until you hunt down every last one of them.
Fox Mask Crest
The Fox Mask Crest can be found in the Eastern Chambers of the Dark Shrine Rooms. Keep an eye out for a fox statue with an arrow stuck in it interacting with it will give you a Scroll of Welcome and reveal the door leading to the Crest’s location.
Before you head inside, make sure you’re ready for a fight. You’ll be locked in a closed arena and have to defeat several enemies before you can move on. Once the battle is over, open the box sealed with a talisman to trigger a short cutscene and claim the Fox Mask Crest.
Ending 1: Coming Home to Roost
Place the Fox Mask Crest in the far-left slot with the image of a fox holding a fan. The White Sparrow Crest goes in the top-middle slot, where the fox is pulling a lantern, and the Black Sparrow Crest fits right next to it, in the slot showing the fox tugging on a rope.
Ending 2: Fox’s Wedding
The Fox Mask Crest once again belongs in the far-left slot with the fan-holding fox. This time, the White Sparrow Crest should be placed in the bottom-middle slot, where you see the resting fox. The Black Sparrow Crest goes directly beside the far-left fan scene, in the slot that shows a lantern dangling from a red-roofed cage.
Ending 3: The Fox Wets Its Tail
Put the Fox Mask Crest in the top-left slot with the fox holding up a lantern. The White Sparrow Crest should be placed in the bottom-right slot, where a fox is shown running. The Black Sparrow Crest then goes in the slot right next to that running fox image.
Ending 4: Ebisugaoka in Silence
The Fox Mask Crest goes in the top-left slot with the fox holding a lantern. The White Sparrow Crest fits into the slot directly below the red-cage scene, which also shows a lantern in a red-roofed cage. The Black Sparrow Crest is placed just below the fox-with-lantern scene, again on the red cage image.
