Ancient Wyvern Coins are a very important currency in Monster Hunter Wilds, which are needed to get precious crafting materials and equipment. Although they can be randomly located all over the world, there are efficient farming techniques to get the most out of your haul. This guide will cover the best methods of getting Ancient Wyvern Coins, from locating Curioshell Crab to using certain quests and trading opportunities. Whether you’re looking for formidable armor or unusual crafting materials, learning these methods will have you prepared for your hunting trips.
How to Farm the Ancient Wyvern Coin
Ancient Wyvern Coins can randomly appear in any region. They have a golden glow and a beam of light shooting into the sky, making them pretty easy to spot, even in thick foliage. However, just running around hoping to stumble upon one isn’t the most reliable way to farm them.
Luckily, there’s a better method. You can also get Ancient Wyvern Coins by hunting down Curioshell Crabs. These small creatures spawn in set locations across various zones. If you catch them with your Capture Net, there’s a chance they’ll drop an Ancient Wyvern Coin.
Location of Curioshell in Scarlet Forest
In the Scarlet Forest, you can find Curioshell Crabs in a couple of spots. One spawns near the fishing spot at the Area 8 campsite, the hidden one behind the waterfall. Just head to the small outcrop behind the tent where the Wudwud angler usually fishes, and check the ground for the crab.
Another Curioshell Crab can be found at the Flowering Rocks pop-up campsite in Area 6. Look near the Flowferns, and while you’re there, you can also dive into the nearby pool to collect algae. This might get you some Gobletweed, which you’ll need for something we’ll cover later.
Location of Curioshell in Windward Plains
You can also find a Curioshell Crab in the underground campsite beneath the oasis in Windward Plains, located in Area 14. Fast travel to the camp, then take the exit to the left of the tent. Once outside, look to your left, the crab usually spawns between the two Wylky Gemstone gathering points. If the crab doesn’t show up in any of the spots mentioned, try teleporting to a different region and then coming back. To farm them efficiently, keep switching between two spawn points until you find what you need.
Trading from Trove
You can also visit Rove in the Iceshard Cliffs to trade Gobletweed or Chaliceweed for a few extra Ancient Wyvern Coins. His requests change from time to time, so it’s a good idea to check in with him regularly to see what he’s looking for. Besides coins, Rove also offers other useful items like food ingredients and monster parts for crafting gear.
Completing Quests
If you want to rack up Ancient Wyvern Coins quickly, there are two quests you should focus on: “Aberrant Atrocity” and “What We Protect”.
The first quest, “Aberrant Atrocity”, becomes available from Rove in the Iceshard Cliffs once you hit HR 15 in High Rank and finish the urgent mission. Rove will ask you to take down a Yian Kut-Ku, and completing the quest rewards you with five Ancient Wyvern Coins.
The second quest, “What We Protect”, unlocks after you clear the HR 20 priority mission. For this one, talk to Alma at your tent, she’ll task you with hunting a Blanconga. Succeed, and you’ll earn a hefty ten coins. As a bonus, this quest also unlocks the Artian armor set for crafting.
How to Use the Ancient Wyvern Coin
To trade your Ancient Wyvern Coins for materials, visit Gawdygog at the Wudwud Hideout in the Scarlet Forest. He offers a variety of items in exchange for coins, including Armor Spheres, Melding Tickets, and Sinister Cloth, a key material needed to craft the Death Stench armor set.
