This deep-dwelling, rare fish, which can be recognized by its bright red color, takes patience and certain skills to catch successfully. This guide will outline the best places and techniques for catching and landing this coveted fish, so you’re ready to face this underwater adventure.
Gravid Bowfin Location in MH Wilds
The Gravid Bowfin can be found in every region, but that doesn’t make it any easier to catch. It has a low spawn rate across all the bodies of water where it appears, so you’ll need to cast a wide net—literally and figuratively. These fish tend to stick to exteriors and swim deeper than most, making them hard to spot. Since the Gravid Bowfin is red, the best time to search for them is during the Plenty in the Scarlet Forest. The red water during other weather conditions will blend with their color, making them nearly invisible.
To find a Gravid Bowfin, search in areas where the weather is Plenty and the time is either around dawn or dusk. They can appear in the Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and the Ruins of Wyveria. In the Windward Plains, check Area 13. It’s a fairly easy spot to reach—either by passing through the underground caves that open up there or by crossing the sand dunes. The only catch is that the Gravid Bowfin is a rare fish, and from what I can tell, it doesn’t seem to spawn during any specific region state. At the Scarlet Forest Camp, there’s a fishing spot there where Kanya is often seen fishing, and it’s one of the places where the Gravid Bowfin can spawn.
How to Catch Gravid Bowfin in MH Wilds
Gravid Bowfins are especially drawn to the Emerald Jitterbait, but they’re more skittish than other fish. To increase your chances, try casting the bait close to them, then slowly reel it in with small pauses. This method works better than flicking or dragging the bait. Once a Gravid Bowfin bites, simply pull the trigger to catch it, and just like that, you’ve got yourself a Gravid Bowfin!
To change your lure, hold L1 on PS5, LB on Xbox, or CTRL on PC, then press Triangle or X on PS5, Y or A on Xbox, or use the arrow keys on PC to scroll up and down.
When fishing for the Gravid Bowfin, using a slow reel works best to grab their attention, but patience is key. They seem less interested than other fish, so you might have to catch a few others before a Gravid finally bites.
