In Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, The Fear is the third and one of the more difficult bosses in the main story with his chameleon-like camouflage and venom-coated darts. To successfully defeat The Fear you have to recognize his movements, react quickly, and strategically maneuver through an arena filled with traps. If you want to know how to survive The Fear’s attacks while defeating him in the best way possible, you will find all the information in this guide.
How to Beat The Fear

The Fear, a Cobra Unit member, hunts Snake to aid GRU and Volgin’s world domination plans. His extreme agility, chameleon-like camouflage, and venom-coated darts make him a formidable foe.
Players encounter The Fear in Graniny Gorki South. While his camouflage can make him tricky to spot, the New Style mode provides better camera control, making it easier to track his movements. The arena itself presents its own dangers, as it is filled with traps that can injure or knock Snake down if he’s not careful. On top of this, The Fear’s poisoned darts and occasional explosives add to the fight’s intensity.
Strategies for Defeating The Fear
Immediately after the opening cutscene, players should treat Snake’s injuries using the Cure menu and remove the venom poisoning and crossbow bolt. Throughout the fight, it’s essential to scan the trees for any irregular movements. Even when camouflaged, The Fear often pauses on branches, giving players an opportunity to strike before he fires his poisoned crossbow bolts. Moving frequently helps avoid damage from both his projectiles and tripwires scattered across the forest.
Note: The AK-47 Assault Rifle, acquired early in the game after facing Ocelot, Flecktarn camo, and Thermal Goggles can also be powerful tools in this fight.
In the second phase, The Fear may leave the trees to engage Snake directly on the ground. Remaining observant and mobile during these moments is crucial. Successfully defeating him rewards players with the Spider Camouflage, marking the end of one of the Cobra Unit’s most elusive and dangerous members.
