The Showdown in Sakamoto in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a necessary mission that takes the players through challenging combat and strategic assassinations. The Omi region gains access to this 30th main quest once Against the Koga-ryu has been accomplished and challenges the players to engage with the Naginata, a dominant competitor in Shinbakufu missions. Throughout the game, the player alternates between Yasuke and Naoe and faces lethal enemies such as Gamo Yoshimitsu and finally attempt to assassinate Akechi Kagemitsu.
Showdown in Sakamoto Quest
Showdown in Sakamoto is the 30th main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, taking place in the Omi region. It becomes available right after completing Against the Koga-ryu and is recommended for players at level 20. In this mission, players face off against the Naginata, who oversees Shinbakufu activity in southern Omi and is revealed to be Akechi Mitsuhide’s nephew, Akechi Kagemitsu. Completing the quest rewards 2000 EXP and 1 Mastery Level.
Meet Shotei
To start the quest, open the Objectives Board, navigate to the Shikinubuku group, and select the quest under Akechi Kagemitsu. Head northwest of Sakamoto to find Sakamoto Tower on a hill, where you’ll meet Shotei. When you speak to him, he will give you a dialogue choice:
- I am ready or Not yet.
- To proceed with the quest, select I am ready.
Battle with Gamo Yoshimitsu
In Kill Gamo Yoshimitsu, you regain control as Yasuke outside Sakamoto Castle, where enemies won’t attack right away. As you move south, hostiles engage, so fighting them early prevents being overwhelmed. Gamo Yoshimitsu, found in the southernmost house of the Yoshimitsu Estate, wields a poisonous weapon and chains heavy attacks in sets of three or four. Dodging his final attack at the right moment staggers him, making him vulnerable.
Switching to Naoe and Destroying Explosives
After defeating him, you switch to Naoe and face a dialogue choice with Katsuhime, where selecting “I like your teppo.” expresses romantic interest. Next, you must destroy three explosives by climbing scaffolding and using kunai to detonate them. Once done, regroup with Kitsuhime at the northeast armory tower before meeting Shotei, who stands on a dock. To reach him, dive into the lake or take a boat.
Meeting Shotei and Choosing Your Assassin
After a cutscene, you choose to play as either Yasuke or Naoe, with Naoe offering the stealthier approach to assassinate Akechi Kagemitsu. If fast travel is unlocked, use it to reach the tower; otherwise, climb the outer walls, staying low to avoid detection. Use your grappling hook to reach the roof, take out guards, and enter the tower through a side door. Moving cautiously, take out enemies one by one and use Eagle Vision to avoid noisy floors. A clever trick is stealing food from a dog, which lures Kagemitsu downstairs. When he approaches, assassinate him to complete the mission.
