The “Friend of My Enemy” quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a key mission where Naoe seeks an alliance with Mitsuhide. This guide covers meeting Tomiko, locating Mitsuhide in Katano Castle, and navigating the conversation. Your dialogue choices shape interactions but not the outcome. Follow this walkthrough to progress toward the next quest, “Belly of the Beast.”
Speak to Tomiko and Locate Mitsuhide
The first objective in the “Friend of My Enemy” quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is to speak with Tomiko at the Hideout. She advises meeting Mitsuhide, though the task is risky. Despite his reputation, Naoe agrees to the meeting. However, before proceeding, we must first determine his exact location.
Locate and Enter Katano Castle to Meet Mitsuhide

The game hints that Mitsuhide is at Katano Castle in Settsu, so deploy Scouts in the area to mark a waypoint. If you’re out of Scouts, you can restock them at the Kakurega in your Hideout for 200 mon. Upon arrival, you can enter freely, but avoid provoking guards by wielding weapons or causing disturbances.
When you arrive at Katano Castle, you can walk right in—it’s not a restricted area, and the guards won’t stop you. However, be cautious and avoid actions that might provoke them, such as drawing weapons or colliding with them. Inside Katano Castle, use Observe to scan the area and locate Mitsuhide, marked by a small blue dot. He can be found inside a small building on the castle’s northwestern side.
Talking to Mitsuhide
During your conversation with Mitsuhide, you’ll have several dialogue choices. He first claims to know about Naoe’s intentions, allowing you to respond with either:
- “You know a lot”
- “You know nothing.”
He then mentions knowing about Naoe’s father and his death, giving you the option to reply with:
- “I believe you”
- “I don’t believe you.”
These choices don’t affect the mission or story but do alter Mitsuhide’s responses. You can roleplay Naoe as fearless by disagreeing with him or as naive by believing everything he says.
Regardless of your choices, Mitsuhide ultimately agrees to help Naoe. He assigns his son-in-law and co-conspirator, Lord Ise Sadaoki, to assist in making contact with Oda Nobunaga, Naoe’s next target. This partnership grants Naoe entry to Honnoji, leading to the next main quest, “Belly of the Beast.”
