In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the “Man Proposes” quest darkens as you discover disturbing facts related to Voyta’s life. This walkthrough will guide you through exploring the dugout, reforge the Madman’s Longsword, and making decisions to achieve the “Curiosity Killed the Cat” trophy. Get ready for mystery, suspense, and a tragic ending.
Unlocking the “Curiosity Killed the Cat”

Once you complete the Stained Honor questline in Kuttenburg City, you get another layer of story. Catch up with Voyta afterwards — he has some personal background that directs you to a cryptic dugout northeast of Maleshov. This is the lead-in to one of the game’s darker sequences. You can fast travel to Danemark or Maleshov to cut the journey short, then proceed towards the new objective marker. When you get there:
- You’ll find a solitary man sitting peacefully next to the dugout.
- Don’t be fooled by his peacefulness — he gets hostile when attacked. But the trick is this: surrender to skip the combat.
- This opens up a conversation where he talks obscurely about the death of Voyta and presents you with a broken weapon — the Madman’s Longsword.
At this time, your first thought may be to search the dugout, but wait — that would exclude you from the trophy. Instead, exit the area and ride to a blacksmith in either Miskowitz or Kuttenburg. You’ll have to reforge the sword prior to resuming the investigation.
Reforging the Sword: What You’ll Need

- 3x Frankfurt Steel
- 1x Fastening Material
These items are available to purchase from the blacksmith by the anvil. When you’re ready, start forging. Be accurate — don’t keep striking the same spot over and over, or Henry will say it’s too hot. His voice warnings are your cue, so pay attention.
When the Madman’s Longsword is repaired, return to the man standing by the dugout. He won’t want to take the sword, so you’ll have to succeed at a skill check to persuade him. Only then can you begin digging into the disturbing clues left.
The Investigation Begins

Now that things have calmed down, it’s time to take a closer look around:
- Near the scarecrow, you’ll find a trail of ants or an anthill worth inspecting.
- Above, a noose hanging from a branch adds a chilling atmosphere.
- Inside the dugout, there’s a plate with a wolf’s heart on it — another eerie clue.
After you’ve explored everything, return to Kuttenburg and speak with Voyta to complete the active quest objectives. But there’s still one final chapter…
The Grim Conclusion (and Trophy Unlock)
Wait two or three in-game days, then head back to the dugout. Upon returning, you’ll find the man has taken his own life — he’s now hanging from the same noose you previously saw. It’s a somber moment, but this will unlock the “Curiosity Killed the Cat” achievement. As a final reward, check the chest inside the dugout to claim the Madman’s Sword.
