Loyal Friend Quest Guide – Dragon Age: The Vielguard

In the “Loyal Friend” side quest from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you’ll set out on a risky mission to rescue a lost nug and face off against a Blighted foe. This guide will help you through each step, from navigating the dangerous Unnamed Building to taking down the formidable Blighted Taymore.

How to Start Loyal Friend Quest

In the Veil Jumper Camp in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one of the side quests you can pick up is called “Loyal Friends.” To start, head to the southern part of the map and interact with a note at the quest marker. This sets you on a mission to find Taynore and Gus, leading you to an area known as the Unnamed Building. As you move through Shadowy Grove, be prepared for a series of enemy encounters. Inside the building, you’ll come across a massive, red Blight Boil. Since it’s not gray like typical Blight Boils, you can attack it to make it burst, unlocking the path ahead.

Once you’ve burst the blight, don’t go left. Instead, turn right and follow the hallway until you reach an open room. Inside, you’ll find three dangerous energy sources. One is on the ground to your left, another is on a raised platform to your right, and the last one is located above you. You can destroy each of these energy sources with a single shot. Start by shooting the red one on your left.

Once it’s destroyed, you’ll find a note on the ground. Pick it up and then climb onto the nearby raised platform. On the platform, you’ll find another red energy source. Destroy it and then examine the body nearby. Finally, look up at the wall where you first started. You’ll see the third energy source there. Go back to the middle of the hallway where you first started. This time, turn left instead of right. The gray energy source will turn red. Destroy it and then continue down the hallway.

How to Defeat Blighted Taymore

You’ve arrived too late to save Taymore. She has already been corrupted by the Blight, and there’s nothing you can do to prevent it. This is part of the story, not a race against time. Taymore is now a Darkspawn Emissary, a powerful enemy weak to fire but resistant to necrotic damage. She will also summon a Hurlock ally with the same weaknesses and resistances. Taymore is a real pain. She’ll constantly shoot vines around the small battlefield, damaging you as you move.

To make the fight easier, try to attack her from a distance early on to break her shield. The longer the battle drags on, the harder it will be to stand still and aim. Using abilities that can set her on fire, trap her, or explode nearby will help keep her from moving freely and making the fight more difficult.

To defeat the Hurlock, first use powerful heavy attacks to break its armor. Once its armor is gone, use fire-based attacks to damage it. When its axe starts to glow yellow, you can deflect its attack to stun it and deal significant damage. After defeating Taymore and the Hurlock, go find Gus. He’s hiding in the bushes behind the large rock in the middle of the area. Gus is a nug, a cute, rabbit-like creature that lives underground in Thedas. Once you find him, take him back home.

Loyal Friend Quest Rewards

Use fast travel to return to the Veil Jumper Camp. Then, place Gus back in his cage to complete the quest. You’ll earn 100 Veil Jumper Strength, a Nug Carving, and strengthen your relationships with the companions in your party.
