Hunting Yaga Sidequest Guide Dying Light: The Beast

Hunting Yaga is a side quest in Dying Light: The Beast, where you go on a nighttime mission to track and hunt a dangerous infected called the Yaga. The forest is full of Volatiles, so you will need to move carefully and stay hidden. As you follow the trail, you will face infected enemies, make an important choice, and uncover a story. This guide will help you finish the quest step by step and get all the rewards.

Hunting Yaga Sidequest

The Hunting Yaga sidequest sends Kyle into the southern forest at night to track and defeat the dangerous Yaga. He must sneak past Volatiles, follow clues, and fight infected along the way. After killing the Yaga, Kyle meets Max and tracks the scientist behind the creature, facing a choice to kill or spare him.

Deal with Max

The Yaga is hiding in the southern forest. Before you head out, it’s best to rest and change the time to night, as the objective only appears after dark. As you travel through the forest, remember that the area is filled with Volatiles, and their locations can change. So, you need to stay alert. It’s safest to move quietly and use your Survivor Sense to spot nearby Volatiles and avoid walking into their path.

Track the Yaga’s Trail

As you get closer to the forest, Max will radio in and say he found tracks near a crashed car. Move carefully toward the wreckage. You will likely see the wrecked car on a higher part of the forest, guarded by a Volatile and several infected virals. Now take out the two infected near the car, then inspect the dead soldier’s body to find the start of the Yaga’s tracks.

Follow the Footsteps

The footprints left by the Yaga can be seen using Survivor Sense. These tracks will curve around the group of virals nearby, so be careful not to get spotted. The trail eventually leads downhill, where the Yaga will spot you from a distance, it’s not a boss-level Chimera fight. Take out the Yaga quickly and be ready to deal with any other infected that might attack you. Loot the body to get the Yaga’s Trophy.

Meet Max at the Hut

After you kill the Yaga, Max tells you to meet him at a hut near the electrical substation. At this point, it’s safe to sleep at a Safe Zone and change the time to day. This will help you avoid more Volatiles during the next part. When you reach the hut, you will find it guarded by Baron’s soldiers. They’re armed with assault rifles. Once they’re down, head to the back of the hut and slide open a metal plate. Enter through the broken window to find Max inside.

Max explains that the Yaga was created as part of a job given by the Baron’s men and a scientist. He asks Kyle to avenge his wife, who was killed by the Yaga long ago. Head outside and start tracking the vehicle trail left by the scientist and his team.

Go to the abandoned cabin in the river below the hills, that’s where the trail ends. The cabin is guarded by more of the Baron’s armed militia. Once they’re gone, enter the cabin through the upper balcony door.

Choice: Kill or Spare the Scientist

Inside, you will confront the scientist responsible for the Yaga. He claims they never meant for Max or his wife to get hurt and says killing him won’t change anything. You’re given two choices, kill him or accept a bribe and let him go. Either choice is valid and won’t affect your final rewards. If you take the bribe, you will get 500 Old World Money.

No matter what you choose, head back to the Abandoned House Safe Zone. Here, you will find Max dead inside, with a note thanking you for hunting down the Yaga and saying how much his wife would’ve loved to meet you.
