When you first start playing Hollow Knight: Silksong, getting a map is one of the most helpful things you can do. The world of Pharloom is big and full of hidden places, so having a map makes it much easier to find your way around. In this guide, we will explain how to find Shakra, how to buy your first map from her, and what other useful items she sells to help you explore the world more easily.
How to Reach Shakra and Buy Your First Map
At the beginning of the game, your main way to get maps is through a character named Shakra, a travelling map seller. But she is not the only way to get maps.
To get your first proper map, you need to reach The Marrow, the second big area in the game. Here’s how to get there step by step:
- Start at Moss Grotto and beat the Moss Mother.
- After that, you will arrive at Bone Bottom. Go right until you find Sharma standing near a huge Bone Gate.
- Climb up and go around the Bone Gate to unlock it from the other side.
- Keep going right, and in the next room, head to the top-right corner.
- Then go up and left until you find a chasm. You will pass the Flea Caravan along the way.
- In that same room, go to the top-left exit, and keep going left.
- In the next room, you will see some bells, jump across them and continue left until you hear someone singing.
That singing voice belongs to Shakra, and this is where you will meet her for the first time.
Buying Maps from Shakra
Once you meet her, Shakra will offer to sell you maps in exchange for Rosary Beads. Here are the prices for her maps:
- Moss Grotto Map – 40 Rosaries
- The Marrow Map – 50 Rosaries
If you are short on Rosaries, check the nearby area for enemies and small hidden stashes. Once you buy a map, you can open it anytime by pressing the left bumper. This also unlocks the Map tab in your menu, where you can see your progress across Pharloom.
Extra Map Tools You Can Buy
Shakra also sells a few extra tools to help with map-making. These items are super helpful early on:
- Compass (70 Rosaries): Shows your current location on the map while it’s equipped.
- Quill (50 Rosaries): Let’s Hornet update the map with new areas each time she rests at a bench.
- Bench Pins (60 Rosaries): Marks the benches you have found on the map with a special icon.
- Shell Markers (40 Rosaries): Let you place your own custom markers on the map, great for noting areas you want to come back to later.
Whenever you explore a new area, try to find Shakra first or listen for her singing. Maps make a huge difference when navigating the world, and the Compass + Quill combo is especially helpful to avoid getting lost.
