How to Use a Vehicle in Borderland 4

Without Scooter and his legendary Catch-a-Ride stands, Borderlands 4 ensures the thrill of digi-structing cars, cliff-jumping, and psychos mowing down remains intact. With the game’s transition to an open-world environment, cars are needed for fast transportation, and fortunately, you do not have to wait long before you can get behind the wheel of your first car.

When Do You Receive a Vehicle?

You’ll receive your first vehicle during the third primary mission, “Down and Outbound.” This comes right after the initial quest, “Recruitment Drive,” in which you encounter Claptrap for the first time. As this is an early-level mission that’s fast and simple to accomplish, it’s best that you prioritize it so you won’t be wasting your time running everywhere.

After you complete “Down and Outbound,” you can unlock the ability to call a vehicle from anywhere on the map. On the PC, hit X to digi-struct your vehicle. On console, use the left D-Pad button.

What Your Vehicle Can Do

The default vehicle is not designed for heavy fighting—it has low health and only light armaments such as rockets or turrets—but it completely compensates for it through speed and versatility. With it, you can:

  • Boost quickly travel around expansive open areas
  • Jump across gaps and obstructions
  • Drift-slide through corners or enemy units

It’s more of an exploration device than a war machine, but it does make getting around the huge open world a heck of a lot more efficient and enjoyable.

More Vehicles

As you work your way through story missions and side quests, you’ll unlock more types of vehicles. These new wheels are cosmetic variations only—they don’t affect stats or performance, but they do provide you with some shiny new appearances to cruise around in.
