Timid Kyle’s Neglected Opening Mine is a hidden side area in Borderlands 4. It’s hidden away in the Coastal Bonescape, and you’ll need to complete part of the main story before you can access it. Inside, you’ll face obstacles, enemies, and ultimately the boss Voraxis, all while collecting some unique loot along the way. This guide will walk you through how to unlock the mine, navigate it, and get the rewards.
How to unlock Timid Kyle’s Neglected Opening Mine

Before you can even enter the mine, you need to complete a key part of the story. At some point in the game, the main story splits into two paths. Make sure you complete the Shadow of the Mountain quest. Once you’ve done that, you’ll unlock a fast travel point called Belton’s Boore. After unlocking it, the game will give you a notification letting you know the Augur Mine is now accessible. Once that’s done, head to the nearby lake and look for the cave entrance to begin your exploration.
Entering the Mine
Once inside, your respawn point will be right at the entrance. As you move through the mine, follow the path northeast. You’ll notice broken pieces of wood blocking the way these can be destroyed by punching, shooting, or throwing a barrel.

Make sure you have enough jetpack fuel or glide ability to cross some gaps along the way. At one point, you’ll need to crouch and move carefully through a narrow passage. Then climb the stairs and glide or double jump across an opening to reach the next area.
You’ll encounter rooms filled with enemies, specifically threshers. You don’t have to fight all of them. Head to the back of the room in the southeast direction and climb up the hill. Grab onto a grapple point and carefully move across to the next section. There’s a save point here, and it’s a good idea to refill your ammo because things get tough ahead.
Boss Fight – Voraxis

Slide down into the boss room to face Voraxis. The fight can be difficult, especially dodging his dash attacks. Use the obstacles to block him he can’t pass through certain objects. You can also use the smaller enemies to help manage the fight, but the boss fight is still a bit of a challenge. Once Voraxis is defeated, the mine is cleared.
Rewards
After the fight, you’ll find several loot items, including:
- High Capacity Remnant Bunker – Shield triggers a nova when broken, deals 37 damage, and gives +50% shield capacity on crit.
- Sniper Rifles – May vary each time.
- Entry Shield – A basic armor shield.
- Scraping Weldw Worm – Likely a unique item tied to this boss.
Keep in mind that the loot isn’t always the same each run. After completing the mine, you can return to the entrance and fight the boss again if you like. This makes it a good spot for loot.
