How to Unlock Guarded Chests in Where Winds Meet

Guarded chests in Where Winds Meet are some of the most rewarding treasures in the game, but they can also be tricky to open. These golden chests are usually protected by snakes or NPCs, and getting to the loot requires either solving a puzzle, carefully lockpicking, or using the Celestial Seize Mystical Skill to get it from a distance. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to spot these chests, the different ways to unlock them, and what kind of rewards you can get.

How to Unlock Guarded Chests

Guarded chests are easy to spot; they’re the golden ones with snakes coiled around them or NPCs patrolling nearby.

To open the locked chests, you’ll need to rotate the switches until they form the right pattern, creating a complete picture. Each chest can be a bit different, so the image you need to make and how tricky it is will vary. Some of the patterns you might come across when solving these puzzles include the Tiger, the Serpent, the Dragon, or the Horse. Interact with the chest to bring up the pin tumbler interface. Listen for the clicks and rotate or click the pins, timing each movement perfectly. The key is patience; rushing usually fails. Get it right, and the chest opens for your loot.

You can grab the loot from some Guarded Chests by using the Celestial Seize Mystical Skill. Keep in mind, though, that this doesn’t work on every guarded chest, and you’ll need to stay out of sight while trying it, or you could get caught. Rewards vary by chest: 5-10 Eban Iron, Oscillating Jade, tuning stones, rare weapons, or herbs for potions.
