The new Corvette ship in No Man’s Sky is one of the coolest things added in the Voyagers update. It’s a big, powerful ship that you can fully build, upgrade, and decorate however you like. You can walk around inside it, go on spacewalks, and even beam down to planets without using fuel. However, there is a small bug that you may face with the new update. In this guide, we will show you how to unlock your first Corvette, build it step-by-step at the Space Station and how to get rid of the bug.
How to Unlock the New Corvette Ship
To get your hands on a Corvette-class ship, head over to any Space Station; there’s one in every star system. After you land, go to the left side, where you will see four blue teleporters. Step into any one of them to reach the area where Corvettes are built.
Once you are there, interact with the Corvette Workshop and select “Purchase basic modules.” To buy all the modules you need, make sure you have at least 16 empty inventory slots and more than 10 million Units.
How to Build the New Corvette Ship
Once you are at the Corvette Workshop, choose “Create New Corvette”. Then select “Toggle Module Menu” to open up all the parts you can use.
Start by placing the Landing Gear. After that, you can start building the rest of the ship using the main modules:
Module | Module Position |
Access Module (Landing Bay) | Attaches to the back of the Habitation Module. |
2x Thrusters | Go on each side of the ship. |
Weapon System (Photo Cannon Array) | Can be placed on the top, bottom, or sides. |
Cockpit | Connects to the front of the Habitation Module. |
Reactor | Can be placed on top, underneath, or on the sides. |
Habitation Module | Main body of the ship. |
You can also choose different colours and finishes for each part to make it your own. These are the core pieces needed to complete the basic ship. Once you are done, you can either replace your current ship with the Corvette or add it to your collection.
Upgrading and Customising your Corvette
You can upgrade and customise your Corvette for appearance, but some upgrades can also improve performance. However, the more armour and living space you add, the heavier and slower your Corvette will become.
If you want to keep building or change things later, just head back to the Corvette Workshop and select “Modify [Name of Ship]”. You will be able to add more modules and customise your ship even further.
For example, you can add 2 Flight Stabilisers (Arcadia S-Foil) to the sides of the Habitation Module or even on the Reactor for extra balance. You can also attach the Ducting Outlet, which can be placed pretty much anywhere, on top, underneath, or on the sides of most parts. Another option is to place 2 External Plating units (Argonaut Cowling) in front of the Thrusters to give them some protection.
All modifications and upgrades are done at a Corvette Workshop, which you will find in any Space Station. The only part of the ship you can change while flying or docked is the interior.
To get more modules for your Corvette, you’ll need to explore planets or moons marked with Salvageable Scrap. When you are scanning from space, look for planets that show this tag. Once you land, use your binoculars to search for a yellow shield icon with Wi-Fi-style waves. Tag the location and head over there. Use your Terrain Manipulator to dig, destroy the casing with your Multi-Tool, and then break open the Salvage Container inside. This is how you collect new Corvette modules.
If you find modules you don’t want, you can trade them at the Corvette Workshop. Just go to “Purchase Modules” and then select “Trade Advanced Modules.” You can offer up to three modules at a time, and the better the quality, the higher your chances of getting a good trade in return.
How to Use the New Corvette Ship
You can also manage your ship’s Autopilot before getting out of the pilot seat. Scroll through the options and choose to keep flying forward, auto-fly to the nearest Space Station, or autopilot to any mapped planet in the current star system. You can even skydive off the back of your Corvette once you are inside a planet’s atmosphere. Just make sure you have a way to recall your ship afterwards.
Another feature is the ability to beam down to planets. When you are hovering above a planet, head to the back of your ship. On the left side of the hatch, you will find a button. Press it to instantly teleport down to the surface. A temporary teleporter will also appear where you land, so you can easily return to your ship whenever you are done exploring. This saves you fuel and makes planet-hopping much more efficient.
You can actually walk around inside it, even while flying through space. Press X to open the ship options and select “Leave Pilot Seat.” Now you can explore your ship’s interior freely. You can also use the hatch to go on a spacewalk. Just make sure you’ve got a good jetpack so you don’t float away.
You can also decorate the inside of your Corvette. Whether you are in space or docked, just press Z to enter build mode while walking around inside. If you have the right materials, you can place useful items like Portable Refiners, Construction Research Units, and even extra storage. Some items are just for looks, but others are super handy during missions and travel.
Bug in the Corvette Build Menu
There is a bug with the latest update. Sometimes, when you are in the starship build menu, the game automatically switches you into free placement mode, but there is no option to switch back. This means you can’t properly edit your ship, and if you delete something, you won’t be able to place it again.
If you are having trouble with the Starship or Corvette building menu, here’s a simple fix that might help. First, exit the starship build menu and get inside your ship. Then press Z to open the regular build menu and switch from free placement mode back to snapping mode. After that, return to the starship building menu (or the Corvette building menu). This usually fixes the issue. If it doesn’t work right away, just repeat the steps.
