How to Unlock All Companions in Avowed
In Avowed, companions are characters who join your party and help you on your journey through the Living Lands. You won’t meet all of them at once; you’ll need to complete specific quests to unlock each one. There are four companions in total, but you can only take two with you at a time when you’re out exploring. You can always talk to and swap companions at any campsite, allowing you to choose the best team for your next adventure.
How To Unlock Kai as a Companion
In the “Message From Afar” quest in Avowed, you’ll encounter Kai after escaping on the boat and reaching Dawnshore’s docks. Kai will meet you there and suggest that you join forces to locate the ambassador.
Kai is a Fighter, so he is a powerful tank character. He attacks with a sword and gun, causing heavy fire damage and frequently stunning enemies. He can also taunt enemies, attracting their attention, and assist you in clearing obstructions with fire, uncovering hidden secrets and areas. As you spend more time with Kai and complete his training, you’ll earn either a +2 bonus to your Might, a +2 bonus to your Constitution, or a +1 bonus to both.
How To Unlock Marius as a Companion
You’ll meet your second companion, Marius, during the “An Untimely End” quest in Dawnshore. After things take an unexpected turn, you and Kai will set out to find Marius, since he’s the best tracker around and can help you figure out what happened.
Marius is a Ranger, so he’s skilled at both ranged attacks and stealth. He also uses plant magic to slow down or even root enemies in place. Besides being a great tracker for the story, Marius can also help you spot valuable resources and materials as you explore the world. Spending time with Marius and completing his training will reward you with either a +2 bonus to your Constitution, a +2 bonus to your Dexterity, or a +1 bonus to both.
How To Unlock Giatta as a Companion
You won’t meet Giatta until you reach Emerald Stair, the second region you explore after Dawnshore. You’ll be introduced to her, the Envoy, when you enter Fior mes Iverno. After you help her out with a few things in “The Animancy Method” quest, she’ll join your party.
Giatta is an Animancer, a type of Wizard who’s all about protecting, healing, and boosting your team. Her abilities can really turn the tide of a battle, especially if you level them up. Giatta can also use a Spectral Jolt to activate Essence Generators, which opens up new areas for you to explore. Training with Giatta and getting to know her better will give you either a +2 bonus to your Intellect, a +2 bonus to your Resolve, or a +1 bonus to both.
How To Unlock Yatzli As A Companion
You will actually encounter Yatzli in Emerald Stair even prior to Giatta, but she won’t be part of your party immediately. She will be a companion much later, in the “Face Your Fears” quest in Thirdborn, Shatterscarp.
Yatzli is a Wizard with a large variety of abilities. She has the ability to freeze and stun enemies with heavy attacks, and she can even call down a huge, explosive magic ball that can annihilate clusters of enemies. Outside of combat, Yatzli’s abilities are applicable to exploration as well. She can dispel illusions, which can help you find hidden paths or uncover buried treasure chests. Getting to know Yatzli and completing her training will earn you either a +2 bonus to your Perception, a +2 bonus to your Intellect, or a +1 bonus to both.
