How to Start Escalating Nightmares in Diablo 4 Season 9

In Diablo 4 Season 9, a big part of the endgame is taking on Escalating Nightmares tough challenges that come with some of the best rewards this season has to offer. If you’re wondering how to start these events, where to get the items you need, or what kind of loot you can expect, this guide will walk you through it all in simple, easy-to-follow steps.

How to Start Escalating Nightmares

To start an Escalating Nightmare in the game, you’ll need to use something called an Escalation Sigil. There are a few ways to get this item as you play. Once you’ve got an Escalation Sigil, just open your inventory, find it, and use it. That’s all it takes to kick off the Escalating Nightmare endgame activity right away.

If you manage to complete the full chain, you’ll have a chance to get your hands on the Horadric Jewel, a powerful new seasonal accessory that can give your character a big boost. On top of that, you can look forward to earning a ton of gold, rare crafting materials like Obducite, and plenty of unique and legendary gear. These rewards are designed to make the challenge feel worth it, giving you plenty of reasons to take it on.

How to Get the Escalation Sigil

As you run through Nightmare Dungeons, you’ll find smaller areas inside them called Horadric Strongholds. The good news is, you can start exploring Nightmare Dungeons pretty early, almost right after you create your character this season. When you clear these Horadric Strongholds, you’ll get to open a Grand Horadric Cache, and this special chest has a chance to drop Escalation Sigils.

As you play through the seasonal questline and level up your Horadric Knowledge, you’ll unlock extra rewards at the Horadric Focus. Some of these rewards include Currency Caches, which often contain Escalation Sigils, and the best part is, this can happen even on the easier difficulty levels.
