Why Opening the Fire/Flaming Door Can Be a Challenge?
In order to determine where the pipes lead, players initially appear to need to enter the space above the entryway, but an invisible wall blocks their path. They can reach the secret area’s exit by following the structure around, however this door can only be opened from the opposite side. Therefore, in DOOM: The Dark Ages, unlocking the fire door necessitates a slightly different strategy.
What’s Behind the Door?
It’s not a massive haul, but still worth it. There’s a small hallway to the left with 9x Gold lying around. Keep going and surprise! A Hell Knight will crash through a door and attack. Take him down like the badass you are, and once he’s toast, head through the door he came from to grab a shiny Life Sigil.
How to Get Past the Flaming Door in Chapter 2
Alright, so you’ve made it to that pesky Flaming Door towards the end of Chapter 2—and yep, it’s blocking your way. Good news? There is a way to shut off the flames and sneak into the hidden area behind it. Here’s how you do it:
Spot the Opposite Door
Turn around from the Flaming Door and look directly across—there’s a closed door. That’s your target. Inside that room is a valve that shuts off the flames.
Find the Hidden Entrance & Get Inside
Now, the door itself? Locked. But no worries! Look up and to the right. About halfway up the wall, there’s a metal lock you can break. Remember the Shield Saw trick you learned earlier in Chapter 2? Yep—use it here to bust open the wall and reveal the hidden entrance.
Once the wall’s open, you’ve got two options:
- Vault straight into the upper level of the room
- Or hop onto the ledge nearby and jump across
- Either way, once you’re in, drop down to the lower floor.
Grab the Valve & Head Through the Now-Safe Flaming Door
Look around—there’s loot on the floor, sure, but more importantly, near the door there’s a hole in the wall. Below that? The valve you’ve been hunting for. It’s easy to miss, so don’t rush.
Walk up to it and follow the prompt to turn it. That’ll shut off the flames back at the door.
With the fire out, the door will open when you get close. Use your Shield Charge to smash through and head inside.
Exit Strategy
There’s one more breakable door ahead. Smash through it with your Shield Charge and you’ll pop out back near the original Flaming Door-ready to tear more stuff up in Hebeth.
