How to “Look closely at the blazing sun” in PEAK for Astronomy Badge

In PEAK, there is a fun challenge called “Look Closely at the Blazing Sun” that lets you earn the Astronomy badge. It is not too hard, but you will need to know where to go and what to bring. You will be heading to the hot Mesa biome, finding some binoculars, and timing your view of the sun just right. Here is a simple guide to help you do it step by step.

Start Your Journey in the Mesa Biome

If you want to complete the “Look Closely at the Blazing Sun” challenge in PEAK, your first stop is the Mesa biome. During the first week after launch, this third biome will always be set to Mesa so everyone can try out the new content. That means it will be easier to finish the task and grab the Astronomy badge before normal map rotations start again.

How to Complete the Sun-Gazing Challenge

Before heading out, make sure you’ve got a pair of binoculars in your inventory, you will need them. Once you are in Mesa, you will notice the sun will scorch your character, building up burn damage. To avoid that, find a shady spot, equip your binoculars, and wait for the sun to peek out from behind the clouds. Then, zoom in and take a look at the blazing sun. That should unlock the Astronomy badge, and you will get an achievement notification. If nothing happens, try using the zoom feature again until it works.

Best Places to Find Binoculars

Getting binoculars is pretty easy. One of the best spots is right near the crash site at the shore where you start. Check the debris from the crashed airplane, especially to the right of the back compartment. If they are not there, don’t worry, keep an eye out for luggage scattered across the different biomes, as binoculars can pop up there too.
