If you’re playing Oblivion Remastered and want to complete the Stendarr’s Mercy quest. This guide will walk you through how to start the quest, what you need to do to help Kellen, and how to finally lift his family’s curse.
How to Start the Stendarr’s Mercy Quest
At the Priory of the Nine, Sir Casimir will tell you about the curse that he brought upon himself and the Gauntlets of the Crusader. After you retrieve the relics and face Sir Berich, you’ll learn that Casimir once moved to Chorrol. He had lost all compassion for the weak and the suffering. One day, when a beggar pushed his patience too far, Casimir struck him down right inside the Chapel of Stendarr. Because of this cruel act, he was cursed to feel constantly tired, drained, and weak. The curse caused the Gauntlets to slip from his hands and fall to the floor, becoming so heavy that no one could lift them again. Casimir believes the gauntlets are still there, and advises you to speak with a priest named Areldur for more information.
When you visit Chorrol’s chapel, you’ll find the Gauntlets lying on the ground, surrounded by candles. Nearby, you’ll find Areldur. If you ask him about the Gauntlets, he’ll explain that the curse making them so heavy is also slowly killing a young man named Kellen a descendant of Sir Casimir, now living in the Chapel Hall. The curse has been passed down through Casimir’s bloodline for generations.
You can find Kellen resting in one of the bedrooms. If you talk to him, he’ll hint that Areldur might be hiding something. Go back to Areldur, and this time he’ll finally admit the truth: the only way to free Kellen from the curse is for someone else to willingly take it on.
How to Lift the Curse from Kellen
To break Kellen’s family curse, someone else must agree to take it on. If you tell Areldur that you’re willing to bear the curse, he’ll be surprised but explain what to do next. You’ll need to pray at the altar, which will give you a special ability called Lay Hands. Use this ability on Kellen to transfer the curse. When you do, your fatigue will take a hit, but Kellen will be recovered, you can have the curse removed when The Prophet gives you the Blessing of Talos.
