Purple seals block access to hidden areas in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, and lifting them requires a rare item called Dark Fire. This post-story guide walks you through unlocking Dark Fire, where to farm it, and how to efficiently gather enough to break those magical barriers.
How to Start Collecting Dark Fire to Lift Purple Seals (Post-Story)
Step 1: Wrap Up the Main Storyline
Before anything else, you must beat the main campaign. After the final boss and once the credits have rolled, return to Base Camp. There, you’ll find Trip, your robotic bird companion, waiting with new info—he’s picked up a mysterious Stone Slate during the last mission.
Step 2: Talk to Edward at the Guild Office
Head over to the Guild Office and meet Edward. Bring up the Stone Slate, and he’ll explain that there are more of these artifacts hidden around. Even so, this first one already unlocks Dark Power recipes—one of which is Dark Fire, an essential material used to break purple seals found throughout the game.
Where to Find Dark Fire
Location: You can farm Dark Fire from Shadow Monsters found inside the giant fort in Ginormosia, located north of the West Greatgut Plains.
Important Note: This area only becomes accessible through story progression, so if you’ve completed the game, you’ve likely been there already.
Warning: Dark Fire will not drop unless you’ve already spoken to Edward about the Slate. Farming Shadow enemies beforehand is pointless.
Farming Tips
Drop Rate: Dark Fire is rare. Even if you clear out the entire fort, you might only find one. To farm effectively, you’ll need to leave and re-enter the fort to get enemies to respawn.
Item Boost: You can unlock a passive skill that increases the chance of item drops by 10%, which helps with farming efficiency.
How to Lift the Purple Seals
What They Are: Think of them like the debris you clear at Base Camp—except these are magically sealed and require Dark Fire to lift.
Example: The seal in Quetzal Nest, a low-level area open from the start of the game, needs 10 Dark Fires to unlock.
The Grind: Since each seal requires multiple Dark Fires and the drop rate is low, grinding is unavoidable.
