How to Lay Your Own Roads Effectively in RoadCraft

You can lay your own roads in Roadcraft from very early on in the game. You can place a road wherever you like, which is useful since there are some places with slushy mud that it’s difficult to drive through. AI convoy routes will also become blocked by the mud, so laying your own roads is essential.

To properly lay roads, you’ll require two vehicles:

  1. Dump Truck
  1. Dozer

Step-by-Step Instructions

Ensure that your dump truck is full of sand.

  • Open your map and adjust the filter so that you can see the radius of a nearby sand quarry.
  • Drive in that radius and press down on the D-pad to fill your dump truck with sand.

Drive to the area where you wish to lay the road.

Raise the dump truck tipper a bit until sand starts to spill out.

  • You can dump it all at once, but it’s better for the dozer if you dump it more slowly.

After you dump the sand into position, climb into your dozer.

  • Use it to bulldoze and compact the entire surface of sand, smoothing it out.
  • On the second pass, after you’re done with the first pass–pass over the surface slowly with the dozer.
  • This will eliminate any lumps and bumps and make the road smooth, particularly for AI navigation.

After that, the AI should be able to use the road without any issues. One pass is fine for players, but AI paths are a bit more sensitive, so smoothing twice is advisable.

And that’s the way to lay roads efficiently in Roadcraft!
