How to Investigate the Regions and Raise your HR in Monster Hunter Wilds

Through the expansive wilderness of Monster Hunter Wilds, the road to achieving legendary hunting status is set with discovery and unwavering monster hunting. As you reach the level of High Rank, the game issues you with a key mandate: “Explore the regions and elevate your HR.” This deceptively simple mission embodies the spirit of the progression of the game, asking you to venture into the unknown and perfect the hunt. This guide will shed light on the complexities of exploring new areas and effectively increasing your Hunter Rank, so you’re prepared to take on what comes next.

How to Investigate the Regions

In Monster Hunter Wilds, once you start your High Rank journey, you’ll get a recurring objective: “Investigate the regions and raise your HR.” It’s a bit vague, but here’s what it means—when you check your world map, you’ll notice several unidentified monsters roaming around.

To figure out what they are, simply approach them, and their icons will update to reveal their identities. Once a monster is identified, it stays that way, so you’re free to hunt them whenever you want. Your main task is to explore each region, chat with the locals, and discover what new monsters are lurking in each area. From there, it’s all about doing what you do best, hunting.

How to Raise your HR in Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are two main ways to raise your Hunter Rank (HR):

  1. Hunting monsters: The most obvious method. You can do this by starting Optional Quests through Alma or by initiating a hunt while you’re out exploring the wilds. Once you finish a hunt, you’ll earn Hunter Points that contribute to your HR.  especially Large Monster Optional Quests, Field Surveys, and Investigations. Hunting Frenzied monsters can also speed things up since those fights tend to be a bit quicker. A solid approach is to find a monster you’re good at fighting or one with materials you need, and keep farming it. The more you hunt, the more HR you rack up.
  1. Completing side quests: These are marked with a yellow asterisk on the map. You can check and switch between them in the (admittedly busy) Start/Options menu. If you want to level up quickly, the best strategy is to take on side quests from NPCs.

The goal is simple: keep increasing your HR to push past soft caps and unlock new story progress. Essentially, it’s all about putting in the work.
