How to Get the Staff of Light in Runescape: Dragon Wilds

In RuneScape: Dragon Wilds, acquiring the legendary Staff of Light depends on finishing the “Highlighting the Problem” side quest. This side quest leads you along secret paths, puzzles, and a series of tests to learn the hidden secrets of an old Wizard Statue. You will not only discover the recipe for creating the Staff of Light at the end but also get access to certain rewards. Here is a step-by-step walkthrough to guide you through the quest and build your own Staff of Light.

How to Get the Staff of Light

Finishing the “Highlighting the Problem” side quest unlocks the recipe for the legendary Staff of Light.

To craft it, you’ll need:

  • 16 Blightwood
  • 8 Wild Anima
  • 4 Sapphire
  • 12 Vault Shards
  • 1 Vault Core

Once you’ve got your staff, open your rune pouch and look for any runes marked with an orange diamond; these are typically Air or Fire runes. Right-click one of them to assign it to your staff, and you’re all set.

How to Start Highlighting the Problem

To start the “Highlighting the Problem” side quest, head to the location marked above.

When you get there, you’ll see the ruins of the RuneCrafting Guild Tower. Go to the left side of the area, where you’ll find a Wizard Statue. Interact with it, and you’ll be given three dialogue options:

  • Open Sesame
  • Password
  • Saradomin Smells

None of these are correct, but don’t worry choosing any of them will still trigger the side quest.

Investigate the area about the statue

Just behind the statue, you’ll find a Lore Book titled Vault Hunter’s Journal. Reading it reveals that the correct password for the statue is hidden somewhere inside a nearby Vault. Head to the marked location and climb down the rocky platforms to reach the Vault, the path is pretty straightforward. If you prefer, you can also approach the Vault from the opposite side to reach the entrance. Once you’re there, interact with the door to go inside.

Before you enter, make sure you have some Air Runes on hand. If you don’t, you can craft them at the nearest Rune Altar. As you make your way through the Vault, head toward the highlighted spot on your map. When you get close, use the Windstep skill. Stand near the open area and jump across to reach a ledge that leads into a hidden room. Inside, you’ll find another statue and a chest. Make sure to loot the chest, there are some handy materials and books inside. Then interact with the statue to learn the correct password: Pthentorok.

Locating the Statue

Now head back to the statue and interact with it again. This time, you’ll be given three options:

  • Pthentorok
  • Pigeontoothpick
  • Pythonworocks

Select the first one Pthentorok that’s the correct password.

Once you do, the Wizard Statue will come to life and start talking. Pay close attention, as it will reveal the next steps of your quest.

Charging the Mysterious Orb

To charge the Mysterious Orb you receive from the Wizard Statue, players need to place it on the pedestals found around the RuneCrafting Guild.

Tower Pedestal 1
From the Wizard Statue, players should stand on the rocks to the right. Use the Windstep skill to reach the first tower. Interact with the mechanism to place and charge the orb. After exhausting the dialogue, a surge of electricity will charge the orb.

Tower Pedestal 2
From the first pedestal, follow the marked path in the screenshot. At the end of the roof, use Windstep to jump to a balcony. Once you land, there will be a chest collect the items inside and head to the edge. From there, use Windstep to reach the second tower pedestal. Place and charge the orb there.

Tower Pedestal 3
For the third tower, use Windstep again. It’s recommended to stand on one of the wooden boxes below the tower and then use Windstep to reach the top. Once there, interact with the pedestal to charge the orb.

Return the Charged Mysterious Orb to the Wizard Statue
After charging the orb at all three towers, players should return to the Wizard Statue and interact with it again. Once the dialogue is exhausted, the quest will be complete.
