Genesis Opals are a scarce and precious resource in Monster Hunter Wilds, essential for acquiring exclusive items through trading. But it takes more than exploration to acquire them; it takes knowledge and taking advantage of certain environmental occurrences. This guide will take you through the steps of finding these rare opals, optimizing your gathering efficiency, and utilizing them for rewarding gains.
How to Get Genesis Opal
Genesis Opals can be found in the Oilwell Basin, the Ruins of Wyveria, and the Windward Plains — but only during Magnificent Fossil Emergences.
Emergences are random events that cause a surge in certain resources. During a Magnificent Fossil Emergence, the special Magnificent Fossils will appear in specific areas. You can spot their locations on your map by opening the Environment Overview menu, which will show the nearest gathering point.
If you want to see all the fossil locations in the region, head to the map’s Filter settings using the directional keys. To check if an Emergence is about to happen, go to the Forecast tab in the Environment Overview menu. Once you know when the event will start, you can rest in your tent until it happens.
Tracking Emergence
You can track Emergences using the map. To see upcoming events in each environment, open the world map and hover over a region. Then, scroll to the Forecast tab, you’ll find a list of events for that area.
Match the events to the Minutes row at the top to figure out when each one will start and end. Most of the time, the timetable shows which monsters will appear in the region, but every now and then, you’ll spot an Emergence.
Once an Emergence ends, the special resources tied to it will disappear until the next one happens, so be sure to gather what you need while you can. There are many types of Emergences in Monster Hunter Wilds, so keep an eye on the forecast, you don’t want to miss out on those rare materials!
How to Get more Genesis Opal
If you want to gather more materials from gathering points, wearing armor with the Geologist skill will help. To get an extra Genesis Opal from Magnificent Fossil points, you’ll need Geologist Level 2.
The low-rank Chainmail armor set has the Geologist skill, and every player starts with the full set in their inventory, unless they picked a different starting armor. If you don’t want to swap out your armor, you can also use Decorations with the Geologist skill to get the same benefit.
How to use Genesis Opal
Genesis Opals, like other Special Items, can be traded for useful resources. To start trading, you can talk to item exchange NPCs in villages or speak to Nata at any Base Camp. The items you get in exchange for Genesis Opals aren’t always the same, the selection changes over time, so you never know what you might get!
